Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Unleashes Arbites Class DLC, Bolsters Narrative with Free Update
The grim darkness of the far future just got a whole lot grimmer. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the visceral co-op FPS from Fatshark, is expanding its ranks with the introduction of the Arbites Class DLC. This is alongside a substantial free update aiming to improve the game's narrative and progression systems. Announced amidst the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase, this marks the game's first paid DLC since its initial release.
But what exactly does this mean for players diving into the Tertium hive city to battle hordes of Nurgle's forces?

The Arbites Class: Justice Served with a Cyber-Mastiff
The Arbites Class brings the uncompromising justice of the Adeptus Arbites to the forefront. Players embody an Arbitrator, enforcing the Lex Imperialis with zealous discipline, alongside a loyal Cyber-Mastiff companion. This isn't just a cosmetic addition; the Cyber-Mastiff acts as a vital support unit, capable of disabling priority targets, mauling enemies, and providing crucial assistance to the strike team.
Key features of the Arbites Class include:
- Dedicated Skill Tree: Customize your playstyle with a branching skill tree featuring over 80 nodes, allowing for three distinct combat styles.
- Crowd Control & Command: Utilize suppressive fire and barked orders to control the battlefield. Deploy the Nuncio Aquila, an anti-gravity vox platform that overwhelms enemies with imperial propaganda.
- New Weaponry: Wield the Arbites Shotgun with Special Issue shells, the Assault Shield and Arbites Shotpistol (Darktide's first hybrid defense/range combo), and the crushing Dominator Maul.
- Extensive Customization: Personalize your Arbitrator with six voice options and cosmetic options for both your character and Cyber-Mastiff.
Free Update: Onboarding Revamp and Difficulty Revisions
Releasing alongside the Arbites Class DLC is a free update that focuses on improving the core player experience. Major changes include:
- Improved Narrative Onboarding: A curated mission path guides new players through Tertium, introducing key characters, locations, and narrative elements across escalating difficulty tiers. Seasoned veterans can also opt to re-experience this improved story.
- Reworked Difficulty Progression: Players now unlock higher difficulties by demonstrating skills and completing missions, rewarding mastery over simple leveling.
- Mission Board Changes: All missions currently in rotation are now accessible at every difficulty level, significantly broadening the mission selection for all players.
Skulls 2025 Event: A Nurgle Infestation Looms
To celebrate the Warhammer Skulls event, Darktide players can also participate in a limited-time in-game event. From May 22nd and lasting for a limited time, players will face the stirring forces of Nurgle and encounter Nurgle totems in missions. Destroying these totems summons Chaos Spawns, but beware, as they also buff nearby enemies. The Mourningstar will also receive a thematic makeover, and fan-favorite premium cosmetics will return to the Commodore's Vestures.
The Arbites Class DLC is set to launch on June 23rd for $11.99 / €11.99. The free update will arrive alongside it. Will you be enforcing the Emperor's justice with this new class and the other in-game updates?
