Warhammer 40K Remastered: Space Marine & Dawn of War Get 4K Upgrades and Cross-Play!

Prepare for a double dose of Warhammer 40K nostalgia! Two iconic titles, Space Marine and Dawn of War, are getting remastered editions, bringing classic gameplay to modern PCs with significant visual and gameplay enhancements.

Space Marine: Master Crafted Edition, releasing June 10th, is a remastered version of the 2011 character action game. While the original was considered “decent enough,” this updated version aims to rekindle the God Emperor's flame with upgraded textures, remastered audio, and 4K resolution support. According to PCGamesN, the most notable change might be the Ork redesign: the Orks are now seemingly Goffs, wearing black armor with iconic checker patterns on the shoulders, thanks to “over 100 new voice lines.”. The new version brushes up those decidedly 2011-looking textures offers newly remastered audio, and supports 4K resolution. The trailer also teases an improved UI and a modernised control scheme. Perhaps the weirdest aspect of this remaster is that all the orks in the trailer are now seemingly Goffs, wearing black armor with iconic checker patterns on the shoulders.Developer SneakyBox noted that it's part of an effort to realign the game's portrayal of orks to be more canon-friendly. The Master Crafted Edition includes all the original game's DLC and will feature cross-play multiplayer, allowing a new audience of gamers to enter a beloved game from the past.

Meanwhile, Dawn of War: Definitive Edition, developed by Relic, is slated for release before the end of 2025 and aims to "preserve the legacy" of the original game while improving its visuals for modern machines. It combines the original RTS game and its expansions into one bundle and it's like a bulky, grimy reimagining of Command and Conquer, combining classic real-time mechanics with the defining Warhammer art style. This edition boasts upscaled textures, 4K support, improved world lighting, reflections, and shadows, promising a visually stunning experience. Also available is a new in-game camera to get a better view of the battlefield and the interface has been reworked to better suit widescreen monitors. Players can expect all four classic Dawn of War campaigns, nine armies, and over 200 maps, along with full compatibility with existing Dawn of War mods.

The enduring popularity of both Space Marine and Dawn of War underscores the Warhammer 40K universe's grip on gamers. These remasters offer a chance for veterans to relive cherished memories and for new players to dive into the grim darkness of the far future with updated visuals and features. Relic is creating both of these titles for old and new players. With the release of these remastered titles, the Warhammer 40K galaxy continues to expand, bringing new generations into the franchise.
