Xbox Fans Enraged as PS5 Gets Exclusive DOOM: The Dark Ages Gameplay Reveal
The gaming world is buzzing after id Software unveiled the first look at the Cosmic Realm, a new area from their highly anticipated game, Doom: The Dark Ages. However, the reveal has sparked controversy among Xbox fans, as the gameplay was showcased exclusively on the PlayStation Blog.
PlayStation Gets Exclusive Peek at Xbox's Doom
According to reports, id Software aimed to give PlayStation players "something special" leading up to Doom: The Dark Ages' release in May. Game Director Hugo Martin took to the PlayStation Blog to offer a glimpse into the Lovecraft-inspired dimension. A trailer showcasing the Cosmic Realm was also exclusively posted on PlayStation's official YouTube channel.
A Bold Claim: 'Best Doom Game Ever'
Despite the multiplatform release of the game, the exclusive reveal has triggered some backlash from Xbox fans. Hugo Martin has made a bold statement, claiming that Doom: The Dark Ages is "the best Doom game we've ever made."
"One of them is totally unique for a Doom game, a space we've never been to but a world we've wanted to incorporate into the Doom universe for a while: the Cosmic Realm," Martin stated. "You will bear witness to the cyclopean architecture of this Lovecraftian dimension as you explore its darkest secrets and battle its most insane enemies."
He further added, "An unholy union between Hell and the Cosmic Realm has been formed. You're going to have to experience the story to find out why—but this partnership has given birth to a new host of adversaries for the Slayer to confront."

Inside the Cosmic Realm
Martin describes the Cosmic Realm as a uniquely designed space for the Doom universe, featuring cyclopean architecture and insane enemies. Players will face adversaries like the Cosmic Baron, a twin-bladed brute with psionic attacks, and the Cacodemon, a hybrid between Hell and the Cosmic Realm.
To counter these threats, players can utilize the Reaver Chainshot, a new weapon described as a brutal ballistic iron mace of death.
idTech 8 Powering the Visuals
The game boasts cutting-edge graphics powered by the all-new idTech 8, allowing for more content on-screen, bigger spaces, and dynamic lighting through raytracing. Martin ensured that the game runs buttery-smooth at 60 fps on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.

Release Details
Doom: The Dark Ages is slated for release on May 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who purchase the Premium Edition can start playing as early as May 13.
