Capcom Fighting Collection 2: Producer Reveals Selection Process, Spotlighting Fan Favorites and Hidden Gems

The Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is poised to electrify gamers on May 16, 2025, launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This collection isn't just a random assortment; it's a curated roster featuring gems like Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro, Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Capcom Fighting Evolution, and more. But how did Capcom decide which titles made the cut?

According to Shuhei Matsumoto, producer for both Street Fighter 6 and the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the selection process was a blend of internal passion and external demand. In a recent interview with Famitsu, Matsumoto revealed that Capcom considered which games they, as developers, personally wanted to see revived on modern hardware. This "wish list" was then cross-referenced with data on which titles fans were most eager to experience in their original arcade glory.

"Our first major premise was titles which we personally felt 'We want to play this on modern hardware!'" Matsumoto stated. "And then, we'd look at which titles fans seem to be clamoring for to be able to play in versions just like they used to be back in the arcades and used that data to consider our choices."

This approach ensured that the collection wasn't solely based on popular opinion; it also included titles that Capcom believed deserved a second chance. Matsumoto emphasized that Capcom considered regional preferences, noting that Project Justice and Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein were highly requested in Japan and Asia, while Power Stone and Power Stone 2 enjoyed strong support in North America and Europe.

In a series of recent promotional videos, Capcom has also been spotlighting each game in the collection, showcasing the unique gameplay and features that make each title special. From the crossover frenzy of Capcom vs. SNK to the chaotic 4-player battles of Power Stone 2, the collection promises a diverse and engaging fighting game experience.

The inclusion of titles like Capcom vs. SNK also highlights the unique collaborative spirit between Capcom and SNK, showcasing how the two gaming giants worked together to bring these iconic crossovers to life. If the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 proves successful, it could pave the way for future installments, continuing to revive classic fighting games for a new generation of players.
