Is a Chrono Trigger Remake Finally on the Horizon? Dragon Quest Creator Hints at Possible Revival!

Could one of the most beloved RPGs of all time be making a comeback? Whispers of a Chrono Trigger remake have been circulating for years, and recent events suggest that it might finally be happening. The rumor mill is churning after Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii seemingly let slip some exciting news at Comicon Napoli.

The Accidental Announcement?

During a panel at the Italian Comic Con, Horii, who also co-wrote Chrono Trigger, allegedly made a comment that sounded like confirmation of the remake. According to a Reddit post detailing the event, after Horii spoke, the emcee quickly whispered something in his ear, prompting Horii to cover his mouth, as if realizing he'd revealed something he shouldn't have. The audience, of course, erupted in cheers.

Another attendee corroborated the story, recalling the interviewer's surprised reaction, noting "Wait, if that’s true, this is big." The translator even jokingly told the crowd: "You have heard nothing."

Why This Matters

Chrono Trigger, originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1995, is revered by fans as a masterpiece of the RPG genre. Its compelling story, memorable characters, and innovative time-travel mechanics have cemented its place in gaming history. Following Square Enix's successful remakes of other classic titles like *Live A Live* and *Trials of Mana*, demand for a Chrono Trigger revival has only intensified.

Still Unofficial... For Now

While the incident at Comicon Napoli is intriguing, it's crucial to remember that this is still unofficial. As one post noted: “The father of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger let this information slip during an interview…”. It’s best to embrace a “wait and see” approach. In the meantime, the game recently surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide, showing that there is still a love for this game.

What Could a Remake Look Like?

If a Chrono Trigger remake is indeed in the works, the question becomes: what form will it take? Will it be a faithful recreation of the original, or a full-blown reimagining with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics? The possibilities are endless, and fans have strong opinions on what they'd like to see.

The Future of Chrono Trigger

Square Enix has yet to make an official announcement, but Yuji Horii's slip-up has ignited hope among fans worldwide. Whether this leads to a full remake, a remaster, or something else entirely remains to be seen. For now, gamers can only dream of revisiting Guardia and Magus in a brand-new way.
