Accidental Siri activations could mean a payout for you.

The Lawsuit and Settlement: The lawsuit, filed in 2019, alleged that Apple obtained private communications through unintended Siri activations between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. This occurred when Siri was accidentally activated and overheard conversations, with some recordings potentially being analyzed by contractors. While Apple denied any wrongdoing and stated that Siri data has never been used for marketing purposes, they settled to avoid further litigation.

Who is Eligible? US residents who owned a Siri-enabled device, including iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Macs, HomePods, iPod Touches, or Apple TVs, during the period mentioned above are potentially eligible. To qualify, you must attest that you experienced an accidental Siri activation during a conversation intended to be private.

How to Claim Your Payment: The deadline to submit a claim is July 2, 2025. You can submit claims for up to five devices. Each valid claim could yield up to $20 per device. The exact amount will depend on the total number of claims filed. If you believe you are eligible, even if you didn't receive an email or postcard about the settlement, you can still submit a claim form.

Apple's Response and Privacy Measures: Following the initial scandal, Apple temporarily suspended its Siri evaluation program and implemented options for users to delete Siri recordings and block them from being listened to. Subsequent updates also moved some Siri processing on-device, limiting the data uploaded to Apple's servers.

What Happens Next? After the claim period ends on July 2, a final approval hearing is scheduled for August 1. Following the hearing, and pending judge approval, the funds will be distributed to eligible Apple customers.
