Microsoft Surface Price Hikes and New Copilot+ PC Lineup: What You Need to Know
Microsoft's Surface lineup is undergoing significant changes, impacting both pricing and features. Prepare for price increases on older models while welcoming the next generation of Copilot+ PCs. This shift reflects Microsoft's strategic focus on AI integration and the modern workplace.
Price Hikes on Existing Surface Models
If you were eyeing an older Surface device, be prepared to pay more. As first reported by XDA, Microsoft has raised the base prices of most existing Surface models by around 20 percent. This affects the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lines, as well as power bricks. The starting prices for the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop and 13-inch Surface Pro have jumped from $1,000 to $1,200. Even accessories are affected, with the 65W Surface power supply rising from $90 to $120, and the 127W variant increasing from $125 to $175.
Retail partners like Best Buy and Amazon may still offer the original prices, so it's worth checking those outlets if you're looking for a deal. This price increase follows Microsoft's recent decision to raise the price of the Xbox Series X by $80 and the Xbox Series S by $100, adding to the cost for consumer.
The New Copilot+ PC Surface Lineup
Microsoft is also pushing forward with its new Copilot+ PC Surface lineup for business, designed to leverage both local and cloud-based AI. This lineup includes new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop models, powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor with an integrated NPU delivering 45 TOPs of local AI processing power. Microsoft highlights the new Surface Pro as being the thinnest and lightest Copilot+ PC yet.
New Surface Laptop Features
The new 13-inch Surface Laptop boasts the longest battery life of any Surface device, with up to 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of active web browsing. Microsoft claims it has up to 50% faster performance and double the battery life of the Surface Laptop 5. It also features an AI-enhanced 1080p front-facing camera and an anti-reflective touchscreen.
New Surface Pro Features
The new 12-inch Surface Pro claims 50% faster performance and double the battery life of the Surface Pro 9. The Surface Pro also supports a full desktop experience when paired with the new Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard, as well as accessories designed for Surface like rugged cases, Point-of-Sale solutions and privacy screens from partners like Kensington, The Joy Factory and UAG.

AI-Powered Features
Both the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro include the same artificial intelligence features as their pricier counterparts, such as Windows Studio Effects, Eye Contact, Portrait Blur, Voice Focus, CoCreator, and Live Captions for real-time translation. These features aim to enhance productivity and collaboration for businesses.

Security and Sustainability
Security is a top priority, with the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro designed as Secured-core PCs. They feature the Microsoft Pluton security processor, a chip-to-cloud technology embedded directly into the CPU, ensuring Zero Trust principles. The devices are also built with sustainability in mind, featuring 100% recycled cobalt in their battery cells and designed for repairability.
Implications for Consumers and Businesses
For consumers, the price hikes on existing Surface models might make it more difficult to acquire a Surface device. For businesses, the focus on AI-powered features and Copilot+ PCs could lead to increased productivity and efficiency.
