Microsoft Revamps Surface Lineup: Price Adjustments, New Copilot+ PCs, and AI Integration
Microsoft is making waves in the tech world with a series of changes to its Surface lineup. Recent reports and official statements shed light on price adjustments, the introduction of new Copilot+ PCs, and the integration of advanced AI features across its devices.
Initially, there was confusion regarding Surface prices. XDA reported a potential price increase on Microsoft.com, with the starting prices of the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop and 13-inch Surface Pro appearing to jump from $1,000 to $1,200. However, Microsoft clarified that it had removed the base models from its website, not raised prices. Nancie Gaskill, GM of the Surface group, stated that "Customers can purchase base models of Pro and Laptop at the starting price of $999 at other key retailers." These models are currently available at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, often at discounted prices around $800.
While the pricing situation has been cleared up, Microsoft has increased the prices of its accessories. The 65W Surface power supply has risen from $90 to $120, while the 127W variant now costs $175, up from $125. This follows last week's Xbox price increases, with the Xbox Series X now $80 more expensive and the Xbox Series S costing an extra $100.
In other Surface news, Microsoft is expanding its Surface for Business Copilot+ PC portfolio with the addition of the 12-inch Surface Pro and the 13-inch Surface Laptop. These devices are designed for mobility, powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor with an integrated NPU delivering 45 TOPs of local AI processing power. According to Microsoft, these devices are designed to leverage both local and cloud-based AI.

The 13-inch Surface Laptop boasts up to 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of active web browsing, 50% faster performance, and more USB ports than its predecessor. The new Surface Laptop also delivers an exceptional video calling experience, highlighting why Surface continues to lead as the best endpoint for Microsoft Teams. It features an AI-enhanced 1080p front-facing camera combined with Auto HDR, AI Noise Reduction and Windows Studio Effects.
The new 12-inch Surface Pro is the thinnest and lightest Copilot+ PC yet, offering 50% faster performance and double the battery life of the Surface Pro 9. It adapts to any environment with an adjustable kickstand and anti-reflective display.

Both devices are Secured-core PCs, designed to be secure by default with Windows 11 Pro. They also feature the Microsoft Pluton security processor, a chip-to-cloud technology embedded directly into the CPU.
The Surface Laptop and Surface Pro unlock efficiency with AI experiences, including Copilot on Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Improved Windows search uses semantic indexing and local AI compute, allowing users to find files and settings more efficiently.
To simplify device management, the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro feature QR codes etched directly onto the device and is integrated now with Security Copilot into Surface Management Portal. The Surface devices are built with a focus on waste reduction and are designed for high performance and energy efficiency.
With Windows 10 end of support approaching on Oct. 14, 2025, Microsoft encourages users to transition to Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs. The new Surface devices ship July 22 with Surface Pro starting at $799.
The smaller 12-inch Surface Pro is available for preorder and starts at $799. Although it has similar specs to the Pro (11th Edition), it is slimmer and lighter—1.5 pounds versus 1.97 pounds and boasts the same AI features included Windows Studio Effects, Eye Contact, and Voice Focus.
