Razer Unveils Clio: A $230 Head Cushion Speaker That Promises Immersive Gaming Audio

Razer is shaking up the gaming audio scene with its innovative new product, the Clio. Imagine immersive, headset-like surround sound without actually wearing a headset. That's the promise of the Clio, a wireless speaker designed to attach to your gaming chair and function as a comfortable head cushion. But at $230, is this a luxury or a game-changer?

According to Razer, the Clio delivers "headset-like immersive audio without the constraints of wearing one." The device utilizes THX Spatial Audio and two angled 43mm full-range drivers to create an intimate listening experience. These drivers are strategically positioned to direct sound directly to the user's ears, promising crisp trebles and deep, punchy bass.

This near-field speaker technology aims to provide a compelling alternative to traditional headphones, especially for gamers who prefer open-air audio.

The Clio connects wirelessly via Bluetooth for compatibility with smartphones, tablets, and handheld consoles. It also supports Razer's HyperSpeed Wireless protocol for a low-latency connection to gaming PCs. The head cushion aspect features memory foam and adjustable nylon straps, ensuring compatibility with most high-back gaming chairs. Razer claims a battery life of up to 14 hours on a single charge, powered by a 5,400mAh battery.

While the Clio can function as a standalone speaker, its capabilities expand further when paired with existing audio setups. Razer suggests integrating the Clio with front speakers to create a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound experience. This could be of particular interest to gamers seeking a more immersive and customizable audio environment.

Alongside the Clio, Razer has also announced the Basilisk Mobile mouse and Joro wireless gaming keyboard. The Basilisk Mobile, weighing only 76 grams, boasts a compact design, a four-way tilting scroll wheel, and up to 105 hours of battery life. It also includes a customizable AI Prompt Master for Synapse 4 shortcuts. The Joro keyboard is an ultra-portable keyboard with a 75 percent layout, measuring just 16.5mm thick. It offers up to 1,800 hours of battery life and features compatibility with both Windows and Apple devices, including a dedicated Microsoft Copilot Key.

The Razer Clio is available for preorder now for $229.99, with shipping expected to begin on May 16th, 2025. The Joro wireless gaming keyboard is also available for purchase at $139.99, while the Basilisk Mobile mouse is listed as "Coming Soon" for $89.99.
