Spotify Revamps Music Discovery with New ‘Snooze’ Feature and Enhanced Controls

Spotify is rolling out a significant update designed to enhance music discovery and playlist curation. Tired of that one song that keeps popping up? The streaming giant is introducing a 30-day Snooze feature, giving users more control over their listening experience.

This update focuses on providing a more personalized and seamless experience. Let's dive into the key features.

The 30-Day Snooze: A Temporary Goodbye

Imagine being able to banish a song from your personalized playlists and recommendations for an entire month. That's precisely what the Snooze feature offers. Accessible via the three dots in the top-right corner when a song is playing, this option temporarily removes a track from all your devices for 30 days.

Spotify describes it as a way to "temporarily remove a track...so you can keep things fresh while leaving the door open for a future reunion." It's a gentler alternative to the permanent 'Hide' option.

Queue Upgrades and Playlist Customization

Premium users will see a redesigned Queue with enhanced controls like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer. Moreover, Spotify will now suggest tracks to add to the queue, giving listeners even more control over their listening sessions. Autoplay and Smart Shuffle can also be toggled off for a fully customized experience.

Playlist management on mobile is also getting a facelift. New tools allow users to easily add, sort, and edit tracks, change playlist titles, and create custom cover art.

Collaboration and Discovery

A new "+" button at the bottom-right of the mobile app simplifies playlist creation, collaboration with friends, and joining a Blend - Spotify's social listening experience. Premium users can also use this button to start a Jam or leverage the AI Playlist feature.

Availability

While some of these features are already rolling out, Spotify notes that it will be a gradual process. Premium subscribers are likely to see the changes first, with wider availability planned for the near future.

What This Means for Spotify Users

These updates signal Spotify's continued commitment to improving the user experience. By giving listeners more control over their music discovery and playlist curation, Spotify aims to keep users engaged and coming back for more. The 30-day Snooze feature is a welcome addition for anyone tired of repetitive playlists, while the enhanced queue and playlist management tools streamline the overall listening experience.
