Nintendo Switch 2: New Features Emerge, Including Joy-Con Locator and Home Screen Sounds

The Nintendo Switch 2 is generating buzz with newly revealed features via the Nintendo Today app. Leaks and updates suggest enhanced user experience, including innovative ways to locate misplaced Joy-Cons and unique home screen sounds.

One of the most anticipated upgrades is the enhanced Joy-Con locating feature. No more frantic searches behind cushions! The Nintendo Today app showcased that the Switch 2 will allow users to trigger a loud beep and vibration on individual Joy-Cons. According to X user Stealth40K, the "Search For Controllers" option within the Controller settings allows users to easily find misplaced controllers. This significantly improves upon the original Switch's vibration-only method, especially given that a new pair costs $95.

Another intriguing reveal from the Nintendo Today app showcases the unique sounds associated with the Switch 2's home screen. Clicking on icons like the Nintendo eShop or Game Chat will trigger distinctive and “cute” sounds. OatmealDome on X captured a video showcasing these home screen audio cues, including a sound that plays when waking the system from sleep while docked.

These feature reveals come after the initial Switch 2 Direct in early April, which unveiled customizable GL and GR buttons for the Pro Controller and in-game binoculars in Mario Kart World. Despite earlier claims, Nintendo has clarified that the Switch 2 will not support VRR when docked.

With a launch rumored for June 5th, the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup looks robust, including Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, and updated editions of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom. The console is also expected to introduce Nintendo GameCube games to the Nintendo Switch Online service exclusively on Switch 2.

Will these new features, like improved Joy-Con tracking, be enough to entice gamers to upgrade? What are your thoughts on the revealed home screen sounds? Share your opinions in the comments below!
