Injustice 3 Rumors Swirl: Is NetherRealm’s Next Game a DC Brawl?

The fighting game community is buzzing! After years of anticipation, whispers of a new Injustice title are growing louder. With Warner Bros. Games reportedly ending support for MultiVersus and potentially wrapping up content for Mortal Kombat 1, all eyes are turning towards NetherRealm Studios and the possibility of Injustice 3.

The speculation is fueled by a data miner known as MultiverSusie, a source with a proven track record regarding MultiVersus leaks. In a cryptic post on X/Twitter, MultiverSusie mentioned "injustice" three times, followed by a simple "3," sending fans into a frenzy of speculation. Could this be a hint that Injustice 3 is closer than we think?

Adding fuel to the fire, NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon, in 2024, stated that the studio has known what their next game would be for quite some time and have been working on it in some capacity. This statement suggests that while Mortal Kombat 1 was the recent focus, the groundwork for another project has been laid.

The original Injustice: Gods Among Us delivered a compelling narrative where heroes from two worlds intersected, and Injustice 2 expanded on that world, exploring the aftermath of Superman's fall and the rise of new threats. Both games were critical and commercial successes, leaving fans eager for a continuation of the story and expanded roster of heroes and villains.

There are several ways NetherRealm could improve on the first two titles, including:

Expanding the Roster: The DC Universe is brimming with characters, and fans are eager to see more representation. The article suggests including characters like Beast Boy, Static, and even exploring more niche characters from DC's Absolute line.

Returning to Comic-Accurate Suits: Many players missed the unique, comic-inspired costumes from the first game and weren't fans of Injustice 2's gear system. Removing the item management and microtransactions could streamline the game.

Leveraging the Multiverse: DC's multiverse is ripe for exploration, and Injustice 3 could draw inspiration from events like Dark Knights: Metal or even crossover potential with Watchmen characters could provide exciting new twists to the story.

Furthermore if the Injustice series does take a break, an alternative path to explore could be a follow-up to the ever popular Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

The recent meeting between DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran with NetherRealm Studios also sparks hope. While it doesn’t guarantee an Injustice game, it suggests a more collaborative and integrated approach to storytelling across films, TV, and games.
