Naughty Dog’s ‘Intergalactic’: ‘The Last of Us’ Actor Teases a Fresh, Secretive Sci-Fi Epic

Naughty Dog, the acclaimed studio behind 'The Last of Us', is venturing into new territory with 'Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet'. While official details remain scarce, Stephen A. Chang, known for his role as Jesse in 'The Last of Us Part 2', has offered a tantalizing glimpse into the project, hinting at its ambition and the studio's tight-lipped approach to development.

In a recent interview, Chang revealed that he has begun working on 'Intergalactic', Naughty Dog's first entirely new franchise in over a decade. The announcement of 'Intergalactic' at The Game Awards 2024 generated considerable buzz, promising a fresh narrative and gameplay experience. However, Naughty Dog is playing its cards close to its chest, even keeping key information from the actors themselves, a strategy seemingly born from the infamous leaks that plagued 'The Last of Us Part 2' prior to its release.

Chang noted, "Last week, I started doing some work for the next Naughty Dog game. What I know about it is probably as much as you guys, which I think is intentional." Despite this limited access, he expressed confidence in the project's potential, teasing that "it's going to be the next big thing." This mirrors statements from Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann, who previously stated that 'Intergalactic' is shaping up to be their "wildest, most creative story yet," with ambitious gameplay goals.

Adding to the intrigue, Chang offered insights into the production process. Similar to 'The Last of Us Part 2', actors are given snippets of the script, often out of chronological order. This approach allows Naughty Dog to maintain secrecy and helps to prevent story leaks, ensuring an element of surprise for players when the game is finally released.

While Chang couldn't divulge specific details about his role, eagle-eyed fans have speculated based on the reveal trailer. His character appears in a scene with a group of individuals known as the "Five Aces," potentially a criminal group being tracked down by the protagonist, Jordan A. Mun (played by Tati Gabrielle). Other actors like Kumail Nanjiani and Tony Dalton are also rumored to be part of this group. It seems players will get Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet focused on player freedom with Sci-fi visuals.

The game's official description paints a portrait of a space western, with Jordan A. Mun stranded on a distant planet, Sempiria, cut off from the rest of the universe for centuries. To escape, she must utilize all her skills and wits.

'Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet' promises to be a significant step for Naughty Dog, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay. With a blend of mystery, familiar faces, and a compelling sci-fi setting, the game is generating anticipation among fans eagerly awaiting news. What aspects of Intergalactic intrigue you the most?
