8BitDo Unveils Slim Leverless Arcade Controller: A Gamer’s Dream for Speed and Precision

8BitDo is shaking up the gaming world with its latest innovation: a sleek, all-button arcade controller that's a mere 16mm thick. This new design, unveiled four years after their initial wireless arcade-style controller, slims down by ditching the joystick in favor of a button-only layout. Dubbed a leverless controller, or Hitbox-style, it's poised to revolutionize how fighting game enthusiasts experience their favorite titles.

Pre-orders for the 8BitDo Arcade Controller are open now at $89.99, with an expected release date of July 15th, 2025. This standard version will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch and Windows PCs. For Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows users, 8BitDo offers an all-black version with adjustable RGB accents, priced slightly higher at $99.99. Both options are significantly more affordable than competitors like Razer's $300 Kitsune.

While traditional gamers might find the leverless controller unconventional, it's gaining traction among fighting game aficionados where split-second decisions can determine victory. The button-only design eliminates the travel time of a joystick, potentially giving players a competitive edge. However, 8bitdo is upfront about this design not being the best fit for every genre, especially fast-paced FPS games.

The Switch version connects via Bluetooth and includes a 2.4GHz USB dongle for PCs. It also supports a USB-C wired connection for minimal latency. It provides up to 20 hours of gameplay on a single charge with its 1,000mAh rechargeable battery.

Gamers will greatly appreciate the controller’s customization abilities. It uses Kailh Wizard low-profile mechanical switches, which are hot-swappable allowing for switch customization to fit player’s preferences.. The four programmable buttons, labeled P1 through P4, have bean-shaped button caps, further enhancing its tactile customizations.

An integrated toggle switch allows users to switch between S-Input mode for Nintendo Switch and X-Input mode for PCs, automatically updating the button labels. Like previous 8BitDo releases, the new Arcade Controller facilitates the company's Ultimate Software, giving players full control over button mappings and complex macros.

The Xbox version differs with no Bluetooth connectivity – only 2.4GHz wireless or USB-C. With a larger 3,000mAh battery with up to 40 hours of playtime with the lighting off, the controllers dial controls volume.

8BitDo is not just a controller manufacture, but a key player that evolves with gamer’s needs. The Arcade Controller promises to combine affordability, customizability, and performance, making it an intriguing option for fighting game fans looking to up their game.
