AI PCs Take Center Stage at Computex: ASUS & AMD Challenge Intel’s Dominance

Computex 2025 in Taiwan became a battleground for the future of PCs, with AI-powered devices taking center stage. While Intel unveiled its advancements, ASUS and AMD made significant moves that could reshape the market landscape. This article dives into the key announcements and analyzes the potential impact on the business PC market.

ASUS, currently ranked as the world's fifth most prolific PC maker, is aiming to climb the ranks by aggressively targeting business buyers. According to Shawn Chang, Head of Go-To-Market for ASUS's Commercial Business Unit, the company understands that many PC fleet buyers might not automatically consider them. To counter this, ASUS is emphasizing robust and resilient products.

ASUS is betting on durability and affordability, even in its low-end business PCs. These machines come with dual memory and SSD sockets, promising easy upgrades over their projected five-to-seven-year lifespan. Strengthened USB ports are designed to prevent motherboard damage and costly repairs. Furthermore, a physical Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and five-year BIOS updates ensure strong security.

A key differentiator for ASUS is its investment in on-device AI. The company's "ExpertMeet" tool, bundled for free, offers translation, transcription, and meeting summarization. "AI Search" indexes on-device and cloud files, enabling users to search, summarize, and create mind maps. ASUS believes this free AI offering will appeal to small-to-medium businesses eager to explore AI's productivity potential without subscription fees.

However, ASUS recognizes that not all businesses are ready for AI. Chang stated, "Everybody wants AI, but nobody knows how to use it." For larger buyers concerned about data security and privacy, ASUS is willing to omit AI features. This strategic flexibility positions them to cater to a wide range of business needs.

Meanwhile, AMD is aggressively pursuing Intel's PC market share with its latest processors for AI-powered PCs and workstations. At Computex, AMD announced an enhanced partnership with ASUS. The Asus Expert P Series Copilot+ PCs, powered by AMD Ryzen processors, are designed to bring AI acceleration to the enterprise. The top-of-the-line model features an AMD Ryzen AI Pro 300 series processor, promising over 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of neural processing unit (NPU) performance.

These PCs are designed to support the next generation of Microsoft Copilot+ artificial intelligence experiences. AMD also showcased its Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics cards for gaming and Ryzen Threadripper processors for high-end workstations. While AMD's stock initially surged, it later reversed course, highlighting the intense competition in the chip market.

Intel, despite introducing new GPUs and AI accelerators, faced increased pressure from AMD and ASUS. Reuters reported that Intel is considering selling its network and edge businesses, signaling a potential shift in strategy. The company also forged a new partnership with IndiaAI Mission to foster AI development.

The developments at Computex 2025 underscore the growing importance of AI in the PC market. ASUS's focus on robust hardware and free AI tools, coupled with AMD's powerful processors, are challenging Intel's dominance. Will this new competition lead to better, more affordable AI PCs for businesses? Only time will tell.
