Alfa Romeo Stelvio Redesign: Leaks, Mandalorian Vibes, and Electrified Power

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is gearing up for a major transformation! Leaks and spy shots reveal a complete redesign for the Italian SUV, expected to debut later this year as a 2026 or 2027 model. Get ready for electrified powertrains, fresh styling, and cutting-edge technology slated to elevate the Stelvio into a new era.

Recent patent images and camouflaged prototype sightings offer a sneak peek at what's to come. A camouflaged prototype was spotted in northern Sweden, undergoing cold weather testing. Design cues point towards a sportier stance, potentially split LED headlights, and distinctive three-spoke alloy wheels, hinting at a bold new direction for the Stelvio’s aesthetic.

Interestingly, the design draws some inspiration from an unexpected source. According to Carscoops, the front end has a bit of a Mandalorian helmet vibe, creating a consistent design theme. Patent images closely mirror the camouflaged prototypes, from the narrow headlights to the oval-shaped taillights. The new Stelvio styling is far more aggressive compared to the current generation. The redesign echos Alfa Romeo's smaller Milano crossover.

Underneath the new skin, the new Stelvio will ride on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform. This platform, also underpinning the Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S, is designed to accommodate electric, hybrid, and internal-combustion powertrains. Alfa Romeo has confirmed both fully electric and hybrid options. The high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio could potentially boast up to 986 horsepower in EV form, based on previous hints. While nothing is confirmed, there's also speculation surrounding the use of the new Charger's inline-six twin-turbo engine for gas-powered versions.

Cutting-edge Tech: The new model will feature the STLA Brain electronic architecture, enabling over-the-air updates and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Spy shots have revealed a significantly larger infotainment screen in the cabin.

Competition and Concerns: Upon its arrival, the new Stelvio will face stiff competition in the compact luxury SUV segment. It will continue to compete against established players like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class, as well as emerging electric rivals like the Porsche Macan EV. Alfa Romeo’s reliability will also be under scrutiny, as past issues could deter customers from the EV version.

The arrival of the 2027 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a significant moment for the brand. Will its blend of Italian design, electrified power, and advanced technology be enough to capture a larger share of the competitive luxury SUV market?
