Apple Doubles Down on Smart Home: New Devices and Robotic Arm Tech Coming Soon?

Apple is reportedly intensifying its efforts to conquer the smart home market, with plans to launch a range of new devices by the end of 2025 and early 2026. This move signals a renewed commitment after earlier attempts with the HomePod and HomePod mini failed to achieve the desired success.

According to a report from Mark Gurman, Apple's upcoming lineup includes an intriguing iPad-like device with a robotic arm. Details on the device's specific functionality remain scarce, but its futuristic design piques curiosity about its potential applications within the smart home ecosystem.

In addition to the robotic arm device, Apple is said to be developing a lower-end model, codenamed J490, without the robotic feature. While initially slated for an earlier release, the launch has been delayed due to reported issues with Siri. If these issues are resolved, the device could potentially debut by the end of the year.

Furthermore, rumors are swirling about an all-new HomePod, potentially launching by the end of this year. This device is expected to boast a 7-inch square display, Apple Intelligence support, and serve as a central command hub for Siri and HomeKit-enabled devices. Several issues have pushed the timeline. The device relied heavily on Siri and App Intents, which were supposed to all come to fruition by iOS 18.4. However, because of technical challenges, that didn’t end up being the case.

However, Apple has reportedly scrapped some bolder features from the device. This decision was made to accelerate the device's readiness. The device's launch was already postponed after Apple delayed its personalized Siri features, which are expected to be a core aspect of the hub.

With these new developments, Apple seems determined to carve out a significant presence in the competitive smart home arena. The robotic arm device and the updated HomePod hint at a more ambitious vision for seamless integration of technology within our living spaces. Whether Apple can deliver on this promise remains to be seen.
