Catch Applin and Evolve into Flapple & Appletun in Pokémon GO: A Sweet Discovery!

Get ready, trainers! Applin, the Grass/Dragon-type Pokémon, has finally made its debut in Pokémon GO, along with its evolutions, Flapple and Appletun! The "Sweet Discoveries" event brings a novel mechanic, tasking players with collecting items off the ground, reminiscent of the April Fools' event. Here's everything you need to know about finding Applin and evolving it into its sweet and tart forms.

How to Find Applin

Applin isn't just wandering around like other Pokémon. You need to be eagle-eyed and look for apple items on the ground, which spawn more frequently around Mossy Lure Modules during the "Sweet Discoveries" event. You can also encounter Applin by completing the "Sweet Discoveries" premium Timed Research, costing $2.

Evolving Applin: Sweet or Tart?

To evolve Applin into either Flapple or Appletun , you'll need 200 Applin Candy and 20 special apple items. Here's the breakdown:

  • Flapple: Requires 20 Tart Apples.
  • Appletun: Requires 20 Sweet Apples.

These special apples can be obtained by, you guessed it, tapping on the apple items you find on the ground. You also get one of each for completing the free Timed Research during the event.

This system mirrors the evolution method from the core Pokémon Sword and Shield games, where specific apples were version-exclusive, encouraging trading between players.

What About Dipplin and Hydrapple?

Fans of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet might be wondering about Dipplin and Hydrapple. Introduced in The Teal Mask DLC, these are currently not available in Pokémon Go. Given Applin's debut timing relative to its original appearance, we might have to wait a bit before these extra evolutions appear.

Can Applin Be Shiny?

Unfortunately, no. At the time of writing, shiny Applin isn’t available. However, like other Pokémon, its shiny form will likely be released in a future Community Day or event. Prepare for awesome green apples!

Prepare for Gigantamax!

Both Flapple and Appletun boast Gigantamax forms, though these aren't yet implemented in Pokémon GO. Collecting Applin Candy now might be a good investment for future Gigantamax collecting!

The "Sweet Discoveries" event continues until April 29, 2025, offering increased shiny odds for Skwovet, Delibird, and Cherubi alongside the Applin debut.

So, are you ready to scour the streets for apples and add Applin to your collection? What is your favorite evolution? Share your thoughts and hunting experiences in the comments below!
