Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Master the Combat and Break the Game
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG with a focus on deep customization and strategic combat. What makes this game stand out? The ability to manipulate its intricate systems to unleash devastating amounts of damage. Forget your typical RPG grind; here, the thrill lies in experimenting with character builds and finding innovative ways to dominate the battlefield.
In Expedition 33, your mission is to destroy The Paintress, a mysterious entity erasing people's age every year. Battles involve up to three party members, with reserves ready to jump in if needed. Let's dive into how you can customize your team, exemplified by the fencer Maelle.

Each character equips three "Pictos," providing passive buffs like a defense boost. Winning battles with Pictos allows other characters to equip them as "Luminas" using Lumina Points. Combining Pictos and Luminas to stack bonuses leads to powerful results. For Maelle, a combination focused on critical hits and damage buffs, balanced with defensive Pictos, allows her to deal immense damage while withstanding hits.
Characters also have unique mechanics to enhance attacks. Maelle utilizes different "stances" – offensive (increased damage dealt and received), defensive (reduced damage taken), and virtuous (200% damage, harder to set up). Stances are linked to her six customizable "skills," offering further customization and potential synergies.
While the system can be complex, the game provides helpful suggestions during battles. The potential of the battle system becomes clear early on. Successfully combining stances with lucky Pictos and Luminas can result in dealing thousands of points of damage. One late-game Pictos even lets you exceed 9,999 points of damage in a single hit.
But the game goes beyond just damaging! Another mechanic to consider is the break bar, which allows you deal 20% additional damaged to the broken enemies.

The break bar in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is your friend against bigger and tougher enemies. The bar lives under the health bar and you fill it up as you deal damage. Once the bar is full, that enemy is susceptible to the break status affect by certain skills. Upon breaking the enemy, they will take 20% additional damage and be stunned dropping their turn.
Each character offers unique playstyles. Weapons also play a role. The game truly shines when abilities and skills align perfectly for explosive hits, especially against tricky bosses.
To take it even further, one simple trick is farming XP and clearing mobs of enemies by using pictos. Equipping someone like Gustave the right combination of pictos allows you to turn him into a devastating bomb. The combo is Auto Death, Death Bomb, and Energizing Death. You deal large damage immediately giving the rest of your party +4 AP. This allows the remainder of your team to easily clean up the remaining foes turning the tide of battle.

Finding death bomb can be tricky, and you must go to the optional area, Yellow Harvest. Likewise, Auto Death is also there near the area. Finally, Energizing Death resides within the Forgotten Battlefield.
The game is designed to encourage experimentation. Once you find a preferred combination of characters and skills, it is easy to break the game with so many different opportunities available.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 offers depth, customization, and strategic combat that can all be mastered! Will you embark on this journey to become the ultimate strategist?
