dCS Lina DAC X: The High-End Music Streamer Lands with Enhanced Versatility and Audiophile-Grade Performance
dCS has announced the Lina DAC X, a high-end network music player designed to deliver exceptional sound and versatile hi-res streaming capabilities. Building upon the foundation of the existing Lina DAC, the DAC X offers a revamped full-width design, a rotary volume control, and the ability to connect CD/SACD transports, making it a compelling option for audiophiles seeking top-tier performance.
Where the original Lina DAC, launched previously, set a high bar, the Lina DAC X aims to elevate the experience with added features and improved flexibility. According to Darko.Audio, the Lina DAC X retains the modularity of the original Lina DAC, allowing users to add the Lina clock and Lina headphone amplifier. The device incorporates dCS’s renowned Ring DAC and Digital Processing Platform, managed through the Mosaic app, which supports Tidal, Deezer, and Qobuz. Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Roon, Audirvana, and JPLAY are also supported, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of streaming services.

What Hi-Fi? highlights that the Lina DAC X supports hi-res PCM files up to 24-bit/384kHz and DSD128, promising exceptional clarity and detail retrieval. dCS emphasizes a natural and deeply musical sound aided by their unique 'Ring DAC' conversion system. The device supports streaming from Tidal, Qobuz, and Spotify, along with music management software like Roon and Audirvana. AirPlay 2 and UPnP streaming are also supported for seamless integration with NAS devices, laptops, and hard drives on the same network. However, Bluetooth and Chromecast are notably absent.
The Lina DAC X offers both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, along with coaxial, optical, and USB inputs (Type B and Type A). A Toslink input allows for TV connectivity, while CD transport connections cater to physical media enthusiasts. Housed in a machined aluminum chassis, the DAC X is designed to minimize distortion and enhance sonic performance. Its dimensions are 122mm (H) x 444mm (W) x 356mm (D), and it weighs 14KG.
Twittering Machines notes that the Lina DAC X includes balanced and single-ended analog outputs, a host of digital inputs, and the option to add an external dCS clock. The DAC X supports hi-res streaming from major platforms like Spotify, Qobuz, TIDAL, and QQ Music, and can connect to TVs via TOSLINK, computers, CD transports, and servers. dCS emphasizes that the flexible architecture allows for future upgrades, ensuring long-term value for audiophiles.
Key features of the Lina DAC X include:
- Built-in streamer with support for major platforms
