Destiny 2 Goes Titanfall: Heavy Metal Mode & Vehicle Combat Evolve

Destiny 2 is shaking things up with the introduction of a new limited-time event called "Heavy Metal," drawing comparisons to the popular game Titanfall. As Bungie winds down the current episode with a new dungeon event, this innovative mode has injected fresh energy into the game, and focuses on vehicle-based gameplay.

Heavy Metal pits players against each other in 3v3 matches, featuring Cabal Drake tanks and Fallen Brig mechs. This vehicle-focused PvP mode challenges players to master the unique handling and weaponry of these mechanical behemoths. It isn't infantry combat, the focus is all on the vehicles and mastering them is key to winning.

The objective in Heavy Metal is straightforward: destroy the opposing team and collect their dropped tokens. Kills and token captures each award one point, with a bonus of three points for eliminating the enemy team's top performer. Picking up a token doesn't just add to your score, it also restores your vehicle's health, emphasizing strategic token collection during intense combat. The vehicles are different, while Drakes can launh volley of projectiles that lock onto targets, Brigs are fire hard-hitting missiles. Also both vehicles doesn't have defense abilities so mastering offense is key.

While some players have raised concerns about the balance between tanks (high damage, lower mobility) and Brigs (greater mobility, less damage), opinions seem divided, suggesting a relatively even playing field. Strategy is the most important thing, success requires teamwork while employing dodging skills, strategic use of tracking shots, and knowing how to corner your prey.

To participate in the Heavy Metal event, players must visit Shaxx in the Tower to acquire the "Path of Demolition" quest. This quest serves as an introductory guide for the event, offering a series of objectives that reward progress along the unique event Battle Pass. Rewards include crafting materials, Heavy Metal Engrams, and Exotic Ciphers.

A standout reward is The Gryphon, a new type of vehicle unlocked by completing the reward pass. This Sparrow variant comes equipped with mounted weapons, offering a blend of speed and firepower, something that is finally putting Destiny 2 in line with features of Borderlands 4. With the new Kepler planet focusing on exploration, and the Gryphon having mounted guns, vehicle combat will likely become much more common.

The Heavy Metal event runs from May 9 to May 16, offering a limited window to experience this high-octane mode and earn exclusive rewards. Don't miss your chance to jump into the driver's seat and unleash vehicular mayhem in Destiny 2!
