DJI Osmo 360: Leaked Images Reveal Potential GoPro Max Rival – Will Tariffs Ground It?

DJI Osmo 360: Leaked Images Reveal Potential GoPro Max Rival – Will Tariffs Ground It?

Is DJI about to enter the 360-degree action camera arena? A flurry of leaked images and reports suggest the company might be developing a competitor to the GoPro Max and Insta360 X5, dubbed the DJI Osmo 360. But will this ambitious project ever see the light of day?

The speculation began with images surfacing online, seemingly showcasing the new camera. According to a report by DroneDJ, a Portuguese post on X by Xdrones Studio unveiled the name "DJI Osmo 360" and hinted at impressive specs, including a 1-inch sensor and removable lenses. The post also mentioned a potential European price tag of around €510. These initial leaks sparked intense interest, though the source remained unconfirmed.

The leak frenzy continued over the weekend when hakasushi on X shared detailed images of both the external and internal components. Measuring approximately 6.5 cm long and 9 cm tall, the Osmo 360 appears to blend design elements from both the Insta360 X series and the GoPro Max. Hakasushi also revealed snippets from the Osmo 360’s user manual, outlining basic functionality such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and battery specifications. The battery capacity is reportedly 1,950 mAh, the same unit used in the recent DJI Osmo Action cameras.

Further fueling the fire, Igor Bogdanov posted similar, expanded photos, referring to the device as a "prototype." This designation suggests the camera may still be in the early stages of development. The design similarities to the GoPro Max are striking, potentially positioning the Osmo 360 as a direct competitor in the 360-degree action camera market.

However, the future of the Osmo 360 remains uncertain. Industry expert Jasper Ellens adds a dose of realism to the excitement. He expressed doubt about the product's release, citing U.S. tariffs and the price point needed to compete effectively. GoPro Max is priced at $349 while Insta360 X5 retails for around $549. For DJI to make an impact, the Osmo 360 would need to fall within this range – a potentially difficult feat considering current market conditions.

Ellens implies that there is only a small chance of the camera seeing the light of day given the ongoing challenges. It’s still unclear if the camera will ever make it past its prototyping stage.

If the testing phase is still ongoing, a release is unlikely in the near future. DJI has made bold moves into new camera and gear territory so it is still a strong possibility.

Will the DJI Osmo 360 revolutionize the 360-degree camera market? Or will tariffs and pricing pressures ultimately ground this promising prototype? Leave your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
