DOOM Fan Creates Real-Life Shield Saw from ‘The Dark Ages’ – and You Can Too!
The hype is real! With the recent release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are already diving deep into the medieval-inspired world of the DOOM Slayer. One dedicated fan, Myke Hernandez (aka GameQraft), has taken his excitement to a whole new level by 3D-printing a stunning, real-life replica of the game’s newest demon-squashing tool: The Shield Saw!

GameQraft’s creation is a 1:1 full-scale replica, and he even gifted a second model to id Software for display at their Texas office. But the best part? He's sharing his .STL file pack with the DOOM community, allowing anyone with a 3D printer to create their own!
Unleashing the Shield Saw
The Shield Saw isn't just any weapon; it's a versatile tool for both offense and defense. In the game, it allows you to block attacks and hurl the shield at enemies, even Superheating shielded enemies for devastating explosions. The community is buzzing with anticipation to see how this weapon will be utilized in DOOM: The Dark Ages.

The Making of a Masterpiece
GameQraft explained the multi-phase process of creating the Shield Saw. It begins with porting and formatting the model for 3D printing, followed by slicing the files, and the most challenging part: post-processing. This involves sanding, filling, and priming to achieve a smooth finish before painting.
Inspiration and Iteration
GameQraft revealed that he collaborated with the Bethesda community team, using in-game assets and textures to create the incredibly detailed model. He even had to adapt the design to function in the real world, accounting for elements like moving parts and the absence of the game's “noclip” feature.

QuakeCon Memories
GameQraft is no stranger to showcasing his creations to id Software fans. He previously displayed an impressive sculpt of Samuel Hayden at QuakeCon 2024. “QuakeCon never fails to deliver a great experience,” he said, emphasizing the recognition and appreciation he receives from both fans and game developers.
Get Your Print On!
For those eager to build their own Shield Saw replica, GameQraft advises: “Print away! You'll need glue, some painting skills, and a lot of patience, but it'll turn out great!” He's excited to see what the community will create.
What’s Next?
Beyond the Shield Saw, GameQraft expressed his desire to create more monstrous fabrications from DOOM: The Dark Ages, particularly focusing on the demons. The Dragon, Serrat, might be next on his list!
The convergence of gaming and 3D printing continues to fuel incredible creativity. This Shield Saw replica embodies the passion and ingenuity of the DOOM fan community. Will you be printing your own? What other DOOM weapons deserve the real-life treatment?
