
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake: A Nostalgic Return with a Modern Twist – Coming to Switch 2!
Square Enix is taking fans back to where it all began with the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. This bundle reimagines the first two legendary adventures in the Erdrick Trilogy in a stunning HD-2D style, offering both nostalgia for veterans and an accessible entry point for new players. The game will launch on October 30th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store), and notably, a newly announced Switch 2 version alongside the standard Nintendo Switch.
The original Dragon Quest laid the foundation for the JRPG genre, and these remakes promise to honor that legacy while incorporating modern sensibilities.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake allows players to experience the classic tales of Erdrick's descendants. In Dragon Quest I, you embark on a solo journey to defeat the Dragonlord and restore peace to Alefgard. Dragon Quest II expands the adventure, uniting a party of princes and princesses to confront the evil wizard Hargon.
According to previews, these remakes aren't just graphical updates. They also include quality-of-life improvements such as adjustable battle speed and objective markers. This means no more aimless wandering – players can focus on experiencing the story and battling monsters. The remake also let’s players goes up against multiple monsters in one battle, instead of the original 1v1 battle.
Square Enix emphasized the addition of new cutscenes to flesh out the narratives, especially in Dragon Quest II. These cutscenes give the characters more personality and create a more engaging experience, bringing them closer to modern RPGs in terms of character interaction.
Players with save data from the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will receive bonus in-game items in both Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II. Pre-ordering the digital version also grants a trouble-free travel kit.
The HD-2D remakes aim to deliver the classic Dragon Quest experience in a more palatable format for modern gamers, with Square Enix adding objective markers, battle speed adjustment, and the change in battle dynamic for Dragon Quest I.
