Dyson Unveils PencilVac: The “World’s Slimmest Vacuum Cleaner” Coming in 2026

Dyson is making waves with the unveiling of its latest innovation: the PencilVac, touted as the "world's slimmest vacuum cleaner." This isn't just another vacuum; it's a complete redesign, integrating the battery, motor, and electronics into a sleek handle the size of Dyson's Supersonic hair dryer. The PencilVac is poised to redefine home cleaning, but US customers will have to wait until 2026. Let's delve into what makes this new model so unique and what it means for the future of cleaning technology.

The PencilVac, designed as a replacement for the Dyson Omni-glide, boasts a remarkably slim profile. Instead of the Omni-glide's dual spinning brushes, the PencilVac features four Fluffycones – conical brush bars designed to prevent hair tangling. These Fluffycones protrude slightly at the sides for enhanced edge cleaning and are complemented by green LED lights to illuminate dust and debris.

One of the defining features of the PencilVac is its innovative design. The company said it has four cones in two brush bars that rotate in opposite directions, and they were designed to "strip and eject even long hair, preventing hair tangling around the brush bar." The laser-like lights at both ends of this head also help illuminate where dust particles might be so you can better see what spots you missed.

The new Hyperdymium 140k motor, a mere 28mm in diameter but capable of spinning at 140,000RPM, generates 55AW of suction. Combined with a two-stage dust filtration system to prevent clogging, the PencilVac promises powerful and consistent cleaning performance.

During a hands-on demo, the PencilVac proved adept at quickly cleaning up messes, as the four brush bars worked simultaneously. The LED lights on both sides are a welcome addition, allowing for more efficient cleaning without constant adjustments, one editor pointed out comparing it to his current V12 Detect. He found the entire device easy to maneuver and seemingly powerful during the brief tests.

TheMyDyson mobile app connectivity is another first for Dyson vacuums, offering users access to additional settings, maintenance alerts, and step-by-step instructions. A small LCD screen on the handle displays cleaning mode and battery life estimates.

Despite its compact design, the PencilVac is not without compromises. It's primarily designed for hard floors, and while attachments are available, it doesn't convert into a handheld vac. Battery life is limited to 30 minutes on the lowest power setting, but Dyson offers swappable batteries for extended use.

The PencilVac magnetically connects to a floor dock, and accessories conveniently attach to the dock magnetically, so it's easy to grab and put back. The entire setup looks super neat, he claimed.

The design also includes a the device has an "air-compressing bin design" that allows the bin to contain "five times more dust and debris than its 0.08L capacity." When its time to empty the container, Dyson calls its a "new hygienic syringe bin ejection system" to empty it.

While pricing details remain under wraps, the Dyson PencilVac is slated to launch in Japan later this year, with a US release planned for 2026. This slim vacuum presents a compelling option for smaller homes and spaces with primarily hardwood floors. Will its unique design and features revolutionize the way we clean? Only time will tell.
