End of an Era: DJI Officially Discontinues Support for Phantom 4 Pro and Advanced Drones

The iconic DJI Phantom drone series, a name synonymous with accessible aerial photography, is officially nearing its end. DJI has announced that it will cease service and support for the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced models starting June 1, 2025. This marks the final chapter for a line of drones that revolutionized the industry and propelled DJI to global prominence.

According to a support page update, DJI stopped manufacturing these models back in May 2018. DJI spokesperson Daisy Kong stated, "The DJI Phantom series changed the game for aerial photography and propelled DJI to become the innovative global technology company it is today."

The DJI Phantom: An Icon of Aerial Photography

Introduced in 2016 and 2017, respectively, the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced were groundbreaking devices. The Phantom 4 Pro boasted a 20MP 1-inch CMOS sensor, delivering image quality that rivaled DSLR cameras. It also featured a mechanical shutter and five-direction obstacle sensing, making it a favorite among both professionals and serious hobbyists. The Phantom 4 Advanced offered many of the Pro's premium features at a slightly more accessible price point.

While existing users can continue flying their Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 Advanced drones after June 1, 2025, they will no longer receive official tech support, repairs, or maintenance from DJI. The company encouraged users to upgrade to newer models, highlighting the superior technology and ongoing customer service offered with their latest drones like the Air 3S and Mavic 3 Pro. Rumors are also circulating about an upcoming Mavic 4 Pro and Mini 5, further signaling DJI's focus on newer product lines.

Although this is effectively the end, the series has had an impressive run. The DJI Phantom was an incredibly influential drone, used by amateur and professional creators alike to capture stunning aerial photos and videos. As DJI focuses on its Mavic, Air, and Inspire lines, the sunsetting of the Phantom series marks a significant shift in the company's strategy.

With DJI moving on to new drone designs, the end of support for the Phantom line signals the end of an era. Will you be upgrading to a newer model, or will you continue to fly your trusty Phantom until the very end? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!
