Exynos 2500 Fails to Impress: Galaxy Z Flip 7 Performance Concerns?
Leaked benchmark results paint a concerning picture for Samsung's upcoming Exynos 2500 chipset. While initially slated for the Galaxy S25 series, the chip's underwhelming performance may lead to its debut in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 instead. Is this a cost-saving measure, or a sign of deeper issues with Samsung's in-house silicon?
Recent Geekbench 6 scores, shared by Abhishek Yadav, reveal the Exynos 2500 lagging significantly behind competitors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Apple's A19 series, the Dimensity 9400, and even Xiaomi's XRING 01. The 10-core CPU, configured in a '1 + 2 + 5 + 2' setup with a peak clock speed of 3.30GHz, only managed a single-core score of 2,012 and a multi-core score of 7,563. This positions it a generation behind current flagship chipsets.

According to a TechRadar report, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, bearing model number SM-F766U, was tested with the Exynos 2500 and 12GB of RAM. The disheartening scores have raised questions about whether the phone, seemingly intended for a US release, will be able to compete with other high-end offerings on the market. The clock speeds on the cores were reported to be lower than rival chipsets, potentially contributing to the lower performance. It is uncertain if this is the standard speed for the chipset for if Samsung has throttled it to prevent overheating.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, further highlighting the performance gap. Despite concerns about aesthetics, one PhoneArena report suggests focusing on the internal upgrades expected in the Fold 7. While the design may remain consistent, the device is rumored to have a larger screen, a thinner profile, and improvements to the screen crease. Most importantly, the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Elite worldwide is considered a significant win. The article references a comment comparing Galaxy Folds to Mazda MX-5s, reliable and safe options that just work.
While the Exynos 2500's performance is a cause for concern, it's important to remember that these are preliminary results. As the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 approaches, further optimizations and software tweaks could potentially improve performance. Whether or not Samsung will hit its stride, these results don’t inspire much confidence, and only time will tell how the final product stacks up.
