Far Cry 4 Gets Surprise PS5 Upgrade: 60fps Patch Arrives Years Later
In a surprising move that's sure to delight fans, Far Cry 4 has received a new update, bringing the beloved open-world game to 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5. This unexpected patch arrives over a decade after the game's initial release, offering a smoother and more immersive experience for players revisiting Kyrat.
Previously, Far Cry 4 was locked at 30fps, a common limitation for many Ubisoft titles of that era. However, this new update unlocks the frame rate, allowing the game to run at a silky-smooth 60fps on PS5 consoles. Xbox Series X users have enjoyed this benefit since 2021, thanks to Microsoft's FPS Boost feature. Now, PlayStation gamers can finally join the party.

Ubisoft has been actively revisiting its back catalog, delivering frame rate improvements to several titles. Prior to this update, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey all received 60fps patches for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility. Last year, Ubisoft added 60fps support to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate when played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility. The 60fps patch also added 4K resolution on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X.
The trend suggests that other Ubisoft games may follow suit. This commitment to post-launch support is earning Ubisoft a positive reputation among gamers who appreciate the enhanced experience on current-generation hardware.
The Far Cry series is currently on hold while Ubisoft pursues other ventures, but the publisher recently restructured, forming a new subsidiary dedicated to key franchises like Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. Tencent invested €1.16 billion to gain a minority stake of around 25%.
