Google Pixel 9 Series Price Cuts: Is Now the Time to Upgrade?
The Google Pixel 9 series is seeing significant price drops, making it a tempting time for users to upgrade. With discounts on various models, including the Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, consumers have a range of options to consider. But is the allure of a good deal enough to justify the upgrade?
Amazon is currently matching Best Buy's offer on the Google Pixel 9a, providing a $100 gift card with purchase. However, the standard Pixel 9 is now priced at $600, just $100 more than the Pixel 9a (or $200 more when factoring in the gift card). This price difference makes the Pixel 9 a compelling option considering its improved features.

Comparing the two, the Pixel 9 boasts thinner bezels, superior glass (GG Victus 2 vs. GG3), and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader over the optical one in the Pixel 9a. It also features better main (50MP 1/1.31” vs. 48MP 1/2.0”) and ultra-wide cameras (48MP vs. 13MP). Both phones share the same Tensor G4 chipset, but the Pixel 9a has a larger battery (5,100mAh vs. 4,700mAh) with slower charging (23W/7.5W vs. 27W/15W). The Pixel 9 also includes Satellite SOS and Wi-Fi 7, features absent in the Pixel 9a.
For those seeking higher-end models, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are also discounted, with savings reaching up to $250 on the 256GB XL version. If you need a lot of storage the unlocked 1TB Google Pixel 9 Pro in Obsidian black is down by $300 at Amazon.
Alternatives to the Pixel 9a include the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, priced at $500. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE features a larger 6.7” display with GG Victus+ glass and a faster Exynos 2400e chipset. Its camera setup is notably better with a 50MP 1/1.57” main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 8MP 3x telephoto lens, according to reports.

Deals are also available for theSamsung Galaxy S25+ and against handsets such as the OnePlus 13, the later packing triple 50MP cameras, (1/1.43” main, 3x periscope and 120° ultra-wide). TheSamsung Galaxy S25 Ultra also has a nice discount to soften the blow.
