Google TV Streamlines Setup: Faster, Easier, and Coming to Hisense & Onn Devices
Setting up your new Google TV is about to get a whole lot easier. Google is rolling out a simplified setup process designed to get you streaming faster, starting with select Hisense and Onn devices. This update promises a smoother, less time-consuming experience, addressing common user frustrations with the initial setup.
The revamped setup process focuses on several key improvements, making it appealing to both Android and iOS users.

Android users will see an automatic notification on their phones when the Google TV device is powered on for the first time. This eliminates the need to download a separate app, streamlining the login process significantly. iOS users aren't left out; they can simply scan a QR code displayed on the TV screen to initiate setup, offering a quick and convenient alternative.
One of the biggest improvements is the optimized app installation process. Google claims that users will be able to start watching their favorite content sooner, as the app installation process during setup has been improved. Additionally, Google suggests that the update will help users "worry less about running out of storage down the line," hinting at smaller file sizes and optimized storage management.
The update also enhances connectivity with other smart home devices. Users can now use Google Home speakers to pause the TV, search for movies and shows, and control other smart home devices – all through simple voice commands. This integration aims to create a seamless and intuitive user experience.

The new setup experience will first be available on Hisense's 2025 U7 and U8 series TVs. Google plans to expand the new process to other Google TV devices later this year, including select Onn streaming devices sold exclusively at Walmart.
This update represents a significant step towards simplifying the smart TV experience. By minimizing setup hassles and maximizing device integration, Google is making its Google TV platform more appealing to a wider range of users. With this new setup, users can customize their experience with features like Google Photos screensavers, parental control and individual profiles.
