Google’s New $250 ‘AI Ultra’ Plan: Is Cutting-Edge AI Worth the Price?

Google has just dropped a bombshell in the AI world with the announcement of its new "AI Ultra" subscription plan, priced at a hefty $249.99 per month. This premium offering promises access to the company's most advanced AI models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro's new Deep Think mode, and the highest usage limits across its suite of AI applications like Gemini, NotebookLM, Whisk, and the brand-new AI video generation tool, Flow. But is this top-tier access worth the steep monthly fee?

The AI Ultra plan isn't just about raw processing power; it's about early access and enhanced capabilities. Subscribers gain exclusive access to Project Mariner, an AI research prototype designed to automate up to 10 tasks simultaneously, from information retrieval to booking services and even making purchases. This suggests a future where AI acts as a powerful personal assistant, seamlessly integrating into your daily life. Moreover, Google is sweetening the deal with an individual subscription to YouTube Premium and a massive 30TB of storage across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail.

While AI Ultra is grabbing headlines, Google hasn't forgotten its existing users. The $19.99 per month AI Pro plan is also getting an upgrade. Subscribers will now have access to Flow and Gemini in Chrome at no additional cost. This move demonstrates Google's commitment to expanding AI accessibility, ensuring that users at various price points can benefit from the company's advancements.

Google's unveiling of AI Ultra comes hot on the heels of other players like OpenAI, who offer ChatGPT Pro at $200 per month, and Anthropic, whose Max plan starts at $100 per month. This suggests that a market for high-end AI subscriptions is emerging, catering to users who demand the best performance and features. In comparison, Google's premium offering lands on the higher end which provides more storage, early access feature and a Youtube Premium subscription included in the package.

The plan is currently only available in the US, with a global rollout expected in the coming months. Notably,Google is offering the half price for first 3 months.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, highlighted that this plan is tailored for users who desire to be at the cutting edge of AI. A great incentive to make users pay for Google's AI products. By investing in AI, Google hopes to reverse decelerating revenue growth, especially amidst a growing threat of the AI chatbots, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT .

With AI Ultra, Google isn't just selling access to powerful AI tools; it's selling a vision of the future where AI is deeply integrated into our workflows and personal lives. Will the average user find enough value in this offering to justify the cost? That remains to be seen. But for those who want the absolute best that Google has to offer, the AI Ultra plan is now on the table.
