GTA 4 Remaster Rumors Swirl: Will Liberty City Return on Modern Consoles?

Excitement (and a little disappointment over the GTA 6 delay) might be building for Grand Theft Auto fans. Recent rumors suggest that Rockstar Games could be working on a remastered or ported version of GTA 4 for modern consoles, potentially launching later this year. This news comes from Tez2, a well-known and reliable Rockstar leaker, fueling speculation and anticipation within the gaming community.

The rumors indicate that this potential GTA 4 port has been in development for over a year. While there's no official confirmation from Rockstar, Tez2's track record lends credibility to the claim. Another leaker has backed up the claim on GTA forums, that not only is a port of GTA 4 for modern consoles potentially in the works, but it might be released before the end of 2025. He even claimed that someone at Rockstar hinted at the IV port.

Adding to the excitement, the leaker also mentioned the possibility of a Max Payne 3 port following the GTA 4 release. This would align nicely with the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes currently in development by Remedy Entertainment, in conjunction with Rockstar. Imagine a comprehensive Max Payne experience, combining the remakes of the first two games with a revamped version of the third!

It's important to remember that these are still rumors. Tez2 himself acknowledges the vagueness surrounding the information and advises tempering expectations until an official announcement. It's also worth noting that Tez2 previously reported on a potential GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remaster that was ultimately cancelled. However, the recent release of Red Dead Redemption on other platforms offers a glimmer of hope that Rockstar might revisit its older titles.

Could a GTA 4 port help to explain why the Liberty City Preservation Project mod was taken down recently?

If the rumors are true, which platforms could we expect to see GTA 4 on? The current speculation points to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch port is also rumoured. Considering the game's original release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a return to consoles seems most likely.

Liberty City, the setting of GTA 4, also serves as the hometown of Lucia, one of the protagonists in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. A re-release of GTA 4 prior to GTA 6's launch in 2026 could serve as the perfect way for players to re-familiarize themselves with, or experience for the first time, the gritty and iconic urban landscape.

While we await official confirmation from Rockstar, the possibility of a GTA 4 remaster or port offers a tempting glimpse into the past. Would you be excited to revisit Liberty City on modern consoles? Do you think the rumors hold water? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
