GTA 4 Remastered? Rumors Swirl of PS5, Xbox Series X Release This Year

Is Grand Theft Auto IV finally making its way to current-generation consoles? Rumors are intensifying, suggesting that a remastered or ported version of the beloved open-world classic could be launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as early as this year. This potential release is generating significant buzz, especially given the anticipation surrounding the already delayed Grand Theft Auto VI.

The speculation stems from well-known Rockstar leaker Tez2, who recently revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that a source at Rockstar Games hinted at the GTA IV project. According to Tez2, the port has reportedly been in development for about a year. If these rumors hold true, a release before the end of 2025 is a definite possibility.

Adding fuel to the fire, Tez2 suggests that a port of Max Payne 3 might follow the GTA IV release. This could open the door for Take-Two to release a bundled or 'Definitive Edition,' coinciding with the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes currently in development by Remedy Entertainment. The leaker stated, “Someone at R* hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year.”

It's important to note that these are still unconfirmed rumors. While Tez2 has a reliable track record, such information should be taken with a grain of salt. Rockstar Games has yet to officially comment on these reports. However, the possibility of a GTA IV re-release on modern consoles has been a long-standing demand from fans, especially considering that the game has been somewhat stranded on older platforms like the Xbox 360 and PS3, with current access only available via Steam and Xbox backward compatibility.

The potential release of GTA IV on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S also raises questions about the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI. If the GTA IV port is slated for release within the next 12 months, that could push back the GTA 6 release, which is currently scheduled for May 2026, to fall or even holiday 2026. Rockstar Games is unlikely to release both games in close proximity.

The rumors surrounding a GTA IV port for current-gen consoles are undoubtedly exciting for fans of the series. Will we finally see Niko Bellic return to Liberty City in glorious HD? Only time will truly tell. What are your thoughts on this potential release? Share your opinions and hopes in the comments below!
