GTA 6 Release Postponed to 2026: Fans React to Delay, New Trailer Details Emerge

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) fans are experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. While the anticipation for GTA 6 hit fever pitch with the release of the second trailer revealing captivating details about the game's setting and characters, a recent announcement has tempered expectations somewhat.

Rockstar Games has officially announced that GTA 6's release date has been pushed back to May 26, 2026. This is a significant delay from the previously anticipated Fall 2025 launch window. The gaming world has been buzzing since the moment this information went public, with fans expressing both disappointment and understanding across various social media platforms.

GTA 6 will initially launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, leaving fans with older generation consoles disappointed. There are currently no confirmed plans for PS4 or Xbox One versions. Furthermore, a PC release remains unconfirmed, leading to speculation that it could be delayed even further beyond 2026.

Take-Two's press release confirmed the console platforms but notably did not mention any PS5 Pro enhancements. This absence has ignited discussions about whether GTA 6 might prioritize visual fidelity over achieving a smooth 60 frames per second performance on consoles.

Rockstar Games acknowledged the delay via a message explaining they understand the change of plans may come as a disappointment. Still, it will allow for the team at Rockstar Games enough time to deliver the best experience possible. They thank their fans for their ongoing trust and support.

Despite the delay, the second GTA 6 trailer has provided a wealth of information about the game. Players will be transported to a modern-day Vice City and its surrounding state of Leonida. The game will feature dual protagonists, Lucia Caminos, freshly released from prison, and Jason Duval, who embark on a life of crime together in a "Bonnie and Clyde"-esque partnership.

The trailer also showcases the diverse locales within Leonida, ranging from the touristy beaches of the Keys to the wilderness of Mount Kalaga National Park, the industrial-biker culture of Ambrosia, and the swamplands of Grassrivers. New screenshots offer a glimpse into these regions, hinting at a larger and more immersive open world than ever before. Expect intense action sequences, high-speed chases, and gripping jailbreaks, intertwined with quieter moments exploring the relationship between Lucia and Jason.

The delay to 2026 is undoubtedly a setback, but the potential for a truly groundbreaking gaming experience remains. The vibrant world of Vice City, the compelling characters, and the promise of an expansive open world have all contributed to the continued hype surrounding GTA 6.
