Holy Auction, Batman! 1979 Lincoln Continental Batmobile Replica Goes Up for Grabs

Calling all Dark Knight enthusiasts! A meticulously crafted 1979 Lincoln Continental Batmobile replica is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer, offering a chance to own a piece of pop culture history. This isn't just any car; it's a rolling tribute to the iconic Batmobile from the classic TV series, promising to turn heads and spark nostalgia wherever it goes.

This incredible replica started its life as a humble Lincoln Continental before undergoing a dramatic transformation. According to Bring a Trailer, the extensive conversion involved mounting a fiberglass replica body, produced by Batrodz of New York, onto the Lincoln's chassis. A recent repaint in black with striking red accents and bold bat emblems ensures this Batmobile commands attention. Check out those alloy wheels, also adorned with red bat emblems!

The interior of this Batmobile continues the theme with black bucket seats featuring red piping, Tambour-style dashboard panels, and a plethora of toggle switches and decorative levers. A faux radar console and light displays add to the authenticity, while a Grant steering wheel and AutoMeter gauges provide a touch of functionality. While the radar screen is a prop, the experience of sitting behind the wheel is undeniably thrilling.

Under the hood, this Batmobile replica packs a punch, boasting a 400 cubic-inch V8 engine equipped with an Edelbrock carburetor and Performer intake manifold. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, making it perfect for cruising down the street and thrilling onlookers.

This particular Batmobile is not the only replica out there. Previously, another 1979 Continental-based Batmobile hit the auction block, and even the original Batmobile No. 3, used in the 1966 television series, has been sold. This makes it clear that the demand for Batmobiles is as hot as ever.

According to Car and Driver, the original Batmobile, designed by George Barris, was based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car. This replica, built on a Lincoln chassis, pays homage to that history. The current owner even invested $18,000 in a fresh paint job, showcasing their dedication to making this Batmobile replica as perfect as possible.

With the auction already underway, how high will the bidding go? Will this 1979 Lincoln Continental Batmobile replica find its way into the hands of a devoted collector or a passionate fan ready to fight crime (or at least cruise in style)?
