iPhone 18 Pro Rumors: Under-Screen Face ID and Potential Price Hikes Spark Excitement
Early rumors surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro models are already generating buzz, with the most anticipated upgrade being an under-screen Face ID system. This potential design overhaul, coupled with whispers of possible price increases for the iPhone 17 lineup, has tech enthusiasts eager to see what Apple has in store for the future.
According to Counterpoint Research vice president Ross Young, the iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature an under-screen Face ID system. In a social media post, Young relayed information suggesting that iPhone 18 Pro models will be equipped with the under-screen Face ID system. "At the SID Business Conference today, OTI Lumionics CEO Michael Helander confirmed that they expect phones with under panel Face ID using their materials to be available for sale in 2026," wrote Young. "This suggests that iPhone 18 Pro models will have under panel Face ID with other brands and models to follow."
This aligns with a previous report from The Information's Wayne Ma, who stated that the iPhone 18 Pro models will feature under-screen Face ID, leaving only a small hole in the top-left corner for the front camera. This would eliminate the pill-shaped cutout, though it remains unclear if the Dynamic Island feature will be discontinued or adapted.

While the iPhone 18 Pro's display upgrades are getting significant attention, Apple may also be weighing price hikes for the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is considering this move, potentially justifying the increased cost with new features and design changes rather than attributing them to tariffs.
Speaking of new features, if you haven't updated to iOS 18 yet, you're missing out on a host of improvements. These include a redesigned Home Screen, Lock Screen widgets, a more useful Control Center, funnier texting options with iMessage, a Passwords app, the ability to lock and hide apps, iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia, Language Detection, Dual SIM switching in the Control Center, the ability to hide screenshots, and an all-new Mail app. It's worth updating to experience these enhancements, with iOS 18.5 expected this week.
Looking further ahead, rumors also suggest Apple is planning a mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display for the 20th anniversary iPhone in 2027. There are also rumors that Apple may be shifting the way it introduces new iPhones, potentially changing to two events a year, instead of just one. All of these developments paint a picture of Apple constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology.
Will the under-screen Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro live up to the hype? Will the iPhone 17 see a price increase? And what other innovations does Apple have in store for the future? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
