Lost Soul Aside: After a Decade, the Action RPG Finally Gets a Release Date – But There’s a Twist!

After nearly a decade of anticipation, Lost Soul Aside, the action RPG inspired by Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy, was finally slated for release on May 30, 2025. However, in a recent announcement, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Ultizero Games have revealed a delay. The new release date is now August 29, 2025, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

Why the Delay? According to Ultizero Games CEO and game director Yang Bing, the delay is to ensure a "high-quality game experience." He stated, "We are truly grateful for the positive response we’ve received from players all over the world since we announced Lost Soul Aside… To match the standards Ultizero Games have set for ourselves, we are going to take some additional time to polish the game."

A Long Journey From Solo Project to AAA Title The story of Lost Soul Aside is nothing short of remarkable. What started as a solo project by Yang Bing in 2014, fueled by his love for Final Fantasy XV and Devil May Cry, quickly gained traction online. His initial demo went viral in 2016, capturing the attention of Sony and ultimately earning the game a spot in the China Hero Project, an initiative designed to support promising Chinese indie developers.

What to Expect From Lost Soul Aside Players will step into the role of Kaser, a skilled warrior on a quest to save his sister, Louisa, from interdimensional creatures known as the Voidrax. His journey is not just about combat; it’s a deeply emotional odyssey through a war-torn world. Lost Soul Aside promises a compelling blend of:

  • Fast-Paced Combat: Inspired by Devil May Cry, players can expect fluid weapon transformations, parrying, aerial acrobatics and spectacular attack combos.
  • Rich Narrative: The game delves into themes of love, loss, and sacrifice, drawing inspiration from Final Fantasy's storytelling.
  • Visually Stunning World: Built with Unreal Engine 4, and enhanced to reach quality closers to UE5, expect detailed landscapes, cinematic boss battles, and seamless transitions between exploration and combat.

Unique Gameplay Mechanics Kaser isn't alone in his fight. He's accompanied by Arena, a dragon-like creature that can shapeshift into various weapons. It is a symbiotic companion who not only helps in fights, but also contributes a unique layer to the battle system. Different Arena weapon configurations are more effective against particular enemies, requiring players to switch configurations in order to come out on top.

Devil May Cry meets Final Fantasy influences are apparent in how the game balances both gameplay systems; elements such as fast-paced action is enabled by super-responsive control inputs, players can teleport, dash, evade, jump, strike and morph their weapons for a very in-depth combat system that is also stylish to watch.

Pre-Orders While the release date has been pushed back to August 29, 2025, pre-orders for the Standard Edition are still scheduled to open on February 20, 2025, both digitally and physically. This gives fans ample time to secure their copy of the highly anticipated game.

Final Thoughts: The delay may be disappointing, but it signals Ultizero Games' commitment to delivering a polished and unforgettable experience. Will Lost Soul Aside live up to the hype after so many years? What are your expectations for this action RPG? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
