macOS Tahoe: Apple’s Big UI Redesign Leaked Ahead of WWDC 2025

Get ready for a fresh new look on your Mac! Rumors are swirling that Apple's next major macOS update, version 26, will be called macOS Tahoe, and it's bringing a significant user interface (UI) overhaul. This could be the biggest redesign since Big Sur launched in 2020, marking a new era for Apple's desktop operating system.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and other sources, macOS Tahoe is named after the scenic Lake Tahoe in California, known for its clear, reflective waters. This ties in nicely with rumors suggesting a glass-like design for macOS 26, featuring more translucent windows, buttons, and icons. Think of it as a visual refresh that brings a touch of elegance and modernity to the Mac experience.

The unveiling of macOS Tahoe is expected at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, commencing on Monday, June 9th. Alongside it, we anticipate seeing the debut of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. But here's a twist: Apple is reportedly ditching the traditional version numbering and moving to a yearly designation. So instead of iOS 19, we're getting iOS 26, aligning the operating systems with the year of their release - a move to simplify the naming scheme.

Notably, some older Intel-based Macs may not be compatible with macOS Tahoe. Reports suggest that the following models may be dropped from support:

  • MacBook Pro (2018)
  • iMac (2019)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac mini (2018)
  • MacBook Air (2018)

While the UI redesign is the primary focus, some new features are also expected. This includes a revamped Shortcuts app, which will allow users to create actions using Apple's foundation models. However, updates to Apple Intelligence might be limited in this release.

Apple's decision to rebrand its operating systems and introduce a major UI overhaul signals a commitment to a cohesive user experience across all devices. It’s a bold move, and it will be fascinating to see how users respond to the changes.

What do you think about the potential macOS Tahoe name and the rumored UI redesign? Will the glass-like design be a hit? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
