Get ready, gamers! The worlds of Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and Final Fantasy (FF) are colliding in what promises to be an epic crossover. Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix are teaming up to bring characters and lore from all 16 mainline Final Fantasy games into the Magic universe.
The hype train is already rolling! Hypebeast recently unveiled five exclusive cards from the upcoming expansion, focusing on FINAL FANTASY VII. These cards feature Cloud in various Secret Rendezvous scenes with Tifa, Yuffie, Aerith, and Barrett, depicting Cloud on the skywheel at the Gold Saucer amusement park. Perhaps the most striking reveal is a card illustrated by the legendary Tetsuya Nomura, portraying Sephiroth as Atraxa, Grand Unifier.
But that's not all! The PAX East panel offered a deeper dive into the collaboration, showcasing a plethora of cards from the main set, Commander pre-constructed decks, and the nostalgic "Final Fantasy: Through The Ages" bonus sheet.
Key highlights from the PAX East panel include:
- Comprehensive Coverage: Cards representing every main Final Fantasy game, from the original to Final Fantasy XVI.
- Massive Set: The main set boasts over 400 cards, while each of the four preconstructed Commander Decks contains 100 cards.
- Through The Ages Nostalgia: This bonus sheet includes 64 reprinted Magic cards reimagined with Final Fantasy artwork, offering four cards for each FF installment. These cards appear in approximately one out of every three Play Boosters.
Some standout card reveals at the panel included:
