Marvel Rivals Faces Support Crisis: Mid-Season Patch Aims to Rebalance the Battlefield
Marvel Rivals, the hero shooter that has captured the attention of Marvel fans since its launch, is facing a critical juncture. Season 2, while bringing fresh content inspired by the Hellfire Gala, has also exposed a significant imbalance causing a “Support Strike” among players. Strategist heroes, vital for healing and support, are struggling to survive in a meta dominated by hyper-mobile and powerful damage dealers like Iron Fist.
NetEase, the game's developer, has acknowledged the issue and revealed a plan to address the crisis with an upcoming mid-season patch. This patch, expected in early May, promises to buff support hero damage, making them a more viable threat on the battlefield and increasing team composition possibilities.

"In this fierce environment, Strategists face increased pressure, needing to monitor teammates' health closely while carefully using their key abilities and being mindful of their positioning on the map," NetEase stated, highlighting the challenges faced by support players.
The proposed changes extend beyond damage buffs. Groot and Captain America are slated to become easier to take down, and the infamous Spider-Man uppercut, a source of frustration for many, will be harder to land. These adjustments aim to create a more balanced playing field where support heroes aren't simply easy targets.
Adding to the anticipation, the mid-season patch will also introduce Ultron to the roster, notably as a Strategist hero. This addition could further diversify the support landscape and offer new tactical options for players.
Marvel Rivals' Season 2 launched on April 11th and has seen the player base react strongly to a wave of changes, including new hero outfits and a new environment from the X-Men comics.
The developers indicated they want to be cautious about implementing drastic changes, preferring to make small adjustments and observing the impacts. NetEase will also be making further optimizations to fix issues that have emerged in the competitive environment.
However, not all aspects of Season 2 have been met with universal praise. Some critics point to a perceived lack of content compared to previous updates from the initial release. For example, Frost's default design uses the same color scheme as two other heroes in “Marvel Rivals.” Characters Invisible Woman and Dagger both have the same white with blue accents color scheme that Frost was designed with.

NetEase's responsiveness to community feedback has been widely lauded, even if the balance changes don't pan out as expected. How this approach will shape the game over the long term remains to be seen.
