Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition: Bringing Brad Pitt’s ‘F1’ Movie to Life with Exclusive Race-Inspired Coupe
Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula 1 movie, simply titled F1, is generating serious buzz, and Mercedes-Benz is seizing the moment with a stunning tribute. Introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition, a limited-edition coupe inspired by the movie’s fictional APXGP racing team. But is this just a marketing stunt, or a genuinely desirable piece of automotive art?
The APXGP Edition isn’t just a paint job; it’s a meticulously crafted homage. The design draws heavily from the on-screen livery, featuring a striking matte black finish accentuated by Race Gold elements. These accents are carefully applied by hand to the grille surround, front fenders (displaying a cool checkered flag motif), side sills, rear apron, and rear diffuser. The 21-inch forged wheels also sport a matte Race Gold finish, complementing the glossy black brake calipers behind them.
Stepping inside, the theme continues with black Nappa leather and microfiber seats adorned with gold stitching. Even the carbon fiber trim incorporates gold-colored thread. Illuminated gold door sills and unique floor mats featuring the APXGP logo in Race Gold complete the luxurious and sporty interior. A plaque indicates which of the limited 52 units the occupant is sitting in, emphasizing the car's exclusivity.
While the APXGP Edition boasts impressive aesthetics, performance hasn't been overlooked. It comes equipped with the AMG Carbon Fiber package and AMG Aerodynamics package as standard, including a carbon-fiber front splitter, side sill trim, rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. However, some may be surprised that it’s based on the standard AMG GT 63, powered by a 577-horsepower twin-turbo V8, rather than the more track-focused Pro model. Nevertheless, features like AMG Track Pace for data capture and a lift system for tackling speed bumps add a layer of practicality and track readiness.
Mercedes-AMG is producing only 52 of these special edition coupes worldwide. The odd number is said to be related to the movie, while not explicitly confirmed. This limited production run makes the APXGP Edition a highly sought-after collectible for both car enthusiasts and fans of the upcoming F1 film, which F1 debuts globally on June 25 and in North America on June 27.
While pricing remains undisclosed, expect a significant premium over the standard AMG GT 63's $180,200 starting price. Is the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition a worthy tribute to the high-octane world of Formula 1, or just a clever marketing tie-in? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
