MindsEye Gameplay Leaks and GTA Comparisons Surface Ahead of Launch: Hype or Dud?
MindsEye, the highly anticipated open-world action title from Build A Rocket Boy, helmed by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, is just a month away from its June 10th release on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series platforms. However, a series of gameplay leaks have emerged, sparking debate and raising questions about the game's potential.
Earlier today, a streamer broadcasted leaked MindsEye gameplay, revealing open-world driving and combat mechanics. Reactions online have been mixed, with some drawing comparisons to the Grand Theft Auto series. While it's being dubbed by users as a GTA clone, the marketing campaign for the title has been pretty thin.
The gameplay footage, first surfacing on Reddit, showcases driving sequences reminiscent of high-octane action movies like *Fast & Furious*. Adam Whiting, Assistant Game Director, told Edge that camera tricks are used while driving "to make you feel like you're on the edge of control." The game employs a bespoke layer of Unreal Engine 5.4 to fine-tune tyre grip, suspension travel, and weight transfer, aiming for a balance between intuitive handling and in-depth car control.

YouTuber Punish shared three minutes of gameplay footage, highlighting both driving and action elements. As Jacob Diaz, a former soldier with a mysterious neural implant, players embark on secret missions, facing dangers like smart robots and corrupt leaders. While reviewers note the driving seemingly competent, concerns have been raised about enemy AI and running animations.
Despite the pedigree of its creator and a publishing deal with IO Interactive, MindsEye faces the risk of being overlooked, made more apparent due to the marketing campaign. With the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6, some are hoping MindsEye will fill the open-world adventure void. Now that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed, people will be hurting for an open-world adventure title like this to fill the gap.
However, the leaked gameplay has sparked concerns. One reviewer noted, "It doesn't look awful, but it doesn't look at all memorable from what we've seen in these leaks. I'm of the opinion that MindsEye could wind up being an entirely forgettable third-person shooter."
MindsEye's price tag of 59.99 euros sets high expectations, particularly with comparisons to polished titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA. The game leverages Unreal Engine 5, but it is still unclear if MindsEye will support Lumen or Nanite tech.
Will MindsEye deliver a memorable open-world experience, or will it fall short of expectations? The recent leaks have intensified the debate, leaving gamers eager to see if Build A Rocket Boy can live up to the hype. What are your thoughts on this upcoming title?
