Minecraft Finally Lets You Craft Saddles After 15 Years: A Game-Changing Update

For over a decade, Minecraft players have yearned for one simple thing: the ability to craft their own saddles. After 15 long years of relying on dungeon chests, fishing, and villager trades, Mojang has finally answered the community's call. The latest Minecraft update introduces craftable saddles, making mount-based adventures more accessible than ever before. This single addition dramatically alters the gameplay experience, allowing players to spend less time searching and more time exploring their blocky worlds atop their favorite steeds.

The journey to readily available saddles has been a long one. Since their introduction in 2010, saddles were exclusively found in dungeon chests. As the game evolved, more mounts were added, like horses, pigs, and camels, but acquiring a saddle remained a chore. The new update simplifies the process: players can now craft a saddle using just three leather pieces and one iron ingot.

Beyond convenience, the update also brings a quality-of-life improvement: you can now remove a saddle from a pig without resorting to unfortunate measures. This, combined with earlier leash changes allowing players to connect multiple animals, makes managing mounts significantly easier.

But the update includes more than just saddles. Composer Amos Roddy has contributed five new ambient music tracks inspired by the upcoming second major update of 2025. A new jukebox music disc, "Tears," can be found by defeating hostile ghasts in the Nether, adding a thrilling auditory component to the game.

This is not the only change recently, previously, every single item fired in Minecraft had a fixed 0.3 block target tolerance margin, making players slightly less accurate at shorter ranges. In response, Mojang has all projectiles start with no tolerance margin for the first two ticks (roughly 0.1 seconds). Then, increases by 0.05 per tick until it reaches the previous 0.3 blocks margin. Granting players more precision close to the shooting player or entity and allow for some collision leeway when the projectile is further away.

All of the changes mentioned above are for testing purposes via Mojang's latest Java snapshot and its newest Bedrock beta/preview update (Android currently excluded), and will officially release as part of Minecraft's second major update of 2025.

With a blockbuster movie adaptation and continuous game enhancements, it's safe to say that 2025 might be a flagship year year for Minecraft. If you fancy replicating the cinema experience, the movie just had its digital release earlier this week, offering ample opportunity to enjoy the blockbuster from the comfort of your own home.
