Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Frenzy: Retailers Gear Up for Launch, But Will You Score One?
The Nintendo Switch 2 is generating massive buzz as its June 5th release date rapidly approaches. Retailers are preparing to unleash pre-order restocks, but reports suggest that snagging one of these coveted consoles might be a challenge. Will you be among the lucky few to secure Nintendo's next-gen gaming device?
GameStop and Best Buy have both confirmed plans to offer Switch 2 pre-orders leading up to the launch. GameStop announced its pre-orders will return on June 5th, available both in-store and online. Best Buy is planning midnight openings at select stores, offering a chance to grab a console at the stroke of midnight.

However, potential buyers should be aware that supplies appear to be limited. Both retailers have indicated that only 'select stores' will have the console available, and quantities will be constrained. This scarcity echoes the difficultly in obtaining the original Switch at launch, setting up what could be a competitive pre-order period.
Walmart is also expected to participate in the pre-order rush, potentially focusing on online sales and shipping consoles directly to customers. According to reports they may be gearing up to deliver pre-ordered consoles by 9am local time on launch day, June 5th, for orders made before 8am ET on June 4th.
Meanwhile, for gamers in the U.K., electronics retailer Currys is offering pre-orders for an expensive £569 bundle when it comes with Mario Kart World, a second set of Joy-Con 2 controllers, Joy-Con 2 Wheels, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera.
Nintendo is taking measures to combat piracy. Recently the company updated the Nintendo Account Agreement with warnings against unauthorized use with stricter penalties including potentially making your console unusable.
Analysts predict strong sales for the Switch 2, with Nintendo forecasting 15 million units sold in the fiscal year ending March 2026. Omdia research suggests that the console could sell as many as 14.7 million units in 2025 alone.
With retailers preparing for midnight openings and online restocks, the hunt for the Nintendo Switch 2 is about to intensify. But due to the high demand and limited supply it may be difficult.
