Nvidia and MediaTek Gear Up to Unveil Arm AI PC at Computex 2025: A Potential Game Changer for Windows on ARM?

The tech world is buzzing with anticipation as Nvidia and MediaTek are expected to finally pull back the curtain on their jointly developed Arm AI PC at Computex 2025 this month. After hinting at their ambitions over a year ago, signs point to a significant reveal that could expand Microsoft's Windows on Arm ecosystem beyond Qualcomm's dominance.

According to reports from ComputerBase and Heise, the two companies are planning to introduce more affordable versions of the AI PC showcased at CES earlier this year. This could materialize in the form of two devices, reportedly named N1 and N1X, powered by MediaTek CPUs and Nvidia GPUs. These models are likely to be slimmer, more accessible Windows-based alternatives to the beefy GB10 Linux workstation unveiled in January.

Adding fuel to the fire, MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai is slated to deliver a Computex 2025 keynote on May 20th, just 24 hours after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's presentation. Industry insiders suggest that MediaTek has recently secured substantial FCBGA packaging capacity, a strong indication that the companies are gearing up to unveil PCs with processors soldered directly onto the motherboard.

The move towards Arm architecture in PCs has been gaining momentum, driven by its demonstrated energy efficiency compared to the traditional x86 architecture. While x86 has a vast software library, Arm developers are diligently working on porting applications and implementing compatibility layers to bridge the gap. Apple's success with its M-series chips in Macs has further validated the potential of Arm in the PC space.

Nvidia's entry into the Arm PC market could be a game-changer. With its powerful GPUs and established driver support, Nvidia aims to capture the attention of gamers and content creators alike, an area where Qualcomm's Adreno GPU has faced challenges. A low-cost variant with a mini-Nvidia GPU could also pave the way for cheaper entry-level models within the Windows on Arm ecosystem.

However, the path to market isn't without its hurdles. Reports suggest that technical issues could delay the commercial rollout of the new processors, possibly pushing the release into 2026. Despite these uncertainties, the potential of an Nvidia-MediaTek collaboration to disrupt the PC market is undeniable.

The collaboration relies on the companies' technologies to build the GB10 platform of compact AI workstations. GB10 is powered by a MediaTek 20-core GB10 CPU, 128GB of RAM, a 1 PetaFLOP Nvidia Blackwell GPU, and a 4TB SSD into a compact 1.1-liter (150 x 150 x 50.5mm) enclosure.

Consumer variants of this would likely feature 8 to 16 cores with 16 to 32GB of RAM, though pricing remains to be seen. Nvidia, MediaTek, and other companies joining the Arm Windows movement may aim to deliver a Windows equivalent to Apple's well-regarded M4 Mac Mini.
