Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Launch Imminent: Driver Delay Sparks Performance Concerns, DLSS 4 Integration & More

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 is poised to hit shelves on May 19th, but a last-minute driver delay is raising eyebrows across the tech community. Nvidia's decision not to release the driver before the retail launch has fueled speculation about the card's true performance, leaving gamers and reviewers in a state of anticipation and slight apprehension.

According to reports, Nvidia intends to release the driver concurrently with the RTX 5060's debut at Computex on May 19th. This strategy means that independent reviews might be delayed, potentially leaving consumers to rely solely on Nvidia's performance claims at launch. Hardware Unboxed confirmed they have RTX 5060 samples but cannot publish reviews without the driver, echoing the sentiment that this approach is akin to Nvidia trying to "hide" the RTX 5060, similar to their handling of the 8GB 5060 Ti.

Why does this matter? Many gamers rely on thorough reviews before making purchasing decisions. A delayed driver release means consumers won't have comprehensive, third-party analysis to guide them.

Nvidia promises a 25% raster performance uplift over the RTX 4060, however, that claim needs validation from independent testing, especially considering the 8GB VRAM capacity. While faster than its predecessor, some argue that 8GB GPUs are becoming increasingly limiting in modern, demanding games, which contributed to the RTX 5060 Ti's underwhelming performance.

Despite the driver delay controversy, the RTX 5060 is expected to incorporate Nvidia's cutting-edge technologies, including DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation. Nvidia highlighted upcoming games that will feature DLSS 4 support, including MechWarrior 5: Clans, New World: Aeternum, and Spirit of the North 2. DLSS Super Resolution will also be available in titles like Bodycam, Lost Skies, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, and Necrophosis.

The GeForce RTX 5060 boasts the same NVIDIA Blackwell RTX architecture advancements as the rest of the RTX 50 Series. With these features, GeForce RTX 5060 offers double the performance of the previous generation GeForce RTX 4060 in games with DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and offer an even larger jump in performance and responsiveness for gamers upgrading from older GPUs such as the GeForce GTX 1660 or GeForce RTX 2060. With GeForce RTX 5060 you can play your favorite games at 100+ FPS.

Compared to the RTX 4060, the RTX 5060 adds a few hundred extra CUDA cores and gets a big memory bandwidth increase thanks to the move from GDDR6 to GDDR7.

Priced at a starting MSRP of $299, the RTX 5060 aims to bring high-end features to a more accessible price point. Laptops featuring the GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU will start at $1,099.

Will the RTX 5060 live up to the hype? Will the driver delay impact consumer confidence? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!
