Oblivion Remastered: 4K Textures and Modding Drama Heat Up the Classic RPG

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is making waves, and not just for its updated visuals. However, the modding scene isn't all sunshine and roses. As PC Gamer reports, an "Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch" (UORP) released by Arthmoor has sparked controversy. A wave of warnings is telling players to avoid the patch because of existing tensions with the modder stemming from past modding conflicts. Specifically the "Gategate" incident where Arthmoor controversially added Oblivion gates to his popular Open Cities mod for Skyrim.

The community worries that the UORP will become a mandatory prerequisite for other mods, effectively giving Arthmoor significant control over the modding experience. Accusations of hasty porting of the original Oblivion patch and reports of new bugs further fuel the fire.

Despite the criticisms, Arthmoor defends the UORP as a labor of love that addresses issues not yet fixed by Bethesda and Virtuos. He also states that fixes already incorporated by the developers have been removed from the UORP. While PC Gamer couldn't confirm these new bugs, they still advise caution, recommending players wait for the dust to settle before installing the UORP.
