One UI 7 Battery Drain: Galaxy Users Reporting Issues After Update
Samsung Galaxy users are reporting significant battery drain after updating to One UI 7, based on Android 15. While the update promised smoother animations and smarter AI tools, many are finding their battery life significantly reduced. Let's delve into the reports and potential solutions.
The One UI 7 update, which rolled out in April 2025, brought new features like the “Now Bar” for quick notifications. However, the update seems to be causing unexpected problems. According to Sammy Fans, one user experienced a 10-15% decrease in battery life on their Galaxy S25 Ultra after the update. This user found they needed to charge their phone by mid-afternoon, a stark contrast to the usual 40-50% battery remaining at the end of the day.
This isn't an isolated incident. Across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and Samsung's forums, numerous users are reporting a 10-20% drop in battery life. Some users also noted their phones felt hotter, while others reported laggy apps and bizarre bugs. The issue spans across devices, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra, S24, S23, and even the Z Fold 6.

Android Police also highlighted these complaints, noting that users are filling Samsung’s forums with reports of poor battery life. One Galaxy Z Fold 6 user mentioned their end-of-day battery life plummeted from 45-50% to just 20-25% after the update.
While it's common for Android devices to consume more power after a major OS upgrade while optimizing in the background, the problem persists for many users even after weeks. Sammy Fans suggests this might be due to Samsung rushing the update, citing a previous delay and lock screen bug.
Several temporary solutions have been suggested to mitigate the battery drain. These include:
- Switching to Light Performance Mode: This tones down the CPU/GPU for better battery life.
- Using Dark Mode: AMOLED screens save power in Dark Mode.
- Turning off Always On Display: This cuts power usage.
- Clearing Cache: Clearing the cache for One UI Home can help.
- Factory reset: As a last resort, some users have found success with a factory reset.
For users with older devices, Samsung has begun rolling out the One UI 7 update to its 2021 and 2022 flagship phones, including the Galaxy S21, S22, Z Flip 3/4, and Z Fold 3/4. Check your settings under Software Update to see if the update is available for your device.
It's worth noting that Samsung hasn't officially addressed the battery issue yet, but they are reportedly collecting feedback through the Samsung Members app. A fix might be included in the May 2025 update.
