One UI 8 Beta: Samsung Gears Up for Android 16 with Galaxy S25 Ultra Test Drive

Samsung is already making waves with whispers of One UI 8, the next major iteration of its custom Android skin. Even before the widespread rollout of One UI 7 based on Android 15, evidence is mounting that a One UI 8 beta program launch is imminent. But what can users expect from this update, and when can they get their hands on it?

A recent report has surfaced, detailing hands-on experience with a One UI 8 beta (S938BXXU3ZYEA) running on a Galaxy S25 Ultra. This suggests Samsung is in the advanced stages of testing.

However, expectations should be tempered. The tested beta firmware appears very similar to existing non-beta One UI 8 builds. One notable change observed is the implementation of glass-like transparent backgrounds in more pop-up menus across the UI and various apps. This aesthetic tweak extends the transparency effect seen in apps like Gallery to elements like the video resolution menu in the camera app.

While a seemingly minor update might be underwhelming, especially following the substantial changes in One UI 7, there's a reason to believe this is for good reason. One UI 7 is a 'massive update' so Samsung were forgiven keeping things easier for the next version. It is disappointing however; It's likely the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, launching with One UI 8 and Android 16, will have new features that Samsung will port to other devices later this year.

According to sources, Samsung intends to launch the One UI 8 beta program publicly later this month. The initial rollout might be limited to select devices and markets, expanding further by June. The program is expected to appear by the third week of May but may not be widely available at first.

What about Android 16? It is reported there are a couple of refinements that have been previewed between Android 15 and Android 16, such as Now Brief for older devices, an updated Quick Share feature, and additional device support for log video recording in the camera app launched exlusively as a Galaxy S25 series feature.

While details remain scarce, the potential for a smoother, refined user experience with Android 16 at its core is promising. Are you excited about the prospect of One UI 8 and Android 16?
