Pokemon Go’s ‘Delightful Days’ Season & Guaranteed Encounters: A Deep Dive

Pokemon Go is gearing up for an exciting summer with the introduction of its new 'Delightful Days' season, starting June 3rd. This season promises a plethora of fresh content, including new Pokemon from the Galar, Hisui, and Paldea regions, as well as the debut of several Gigantamax forms. But that's not all – Niantic is also introducing a controversial paid-for encounter system, sparking debate among the community.

The 'Delightful Days' season will bring Pokemon like Yamper, Hisuian Lilligant, and Tatsugiri to the mobile game for the first time. In addition, familiar faces such as Charcadet, Frigibax, and Galarian Ponyta will be more readily available in the wild and as Research Breakthrough encounters. Pokemon Go Fest 2025 will also feature Gigantamax forms of Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Inteleon, with Dynamax forms of Hatenna and other Pokemon appearing in Max Battles.

Community Days are scheduled throughout the season, offering players unique opportunities to catch featured Pokemon. Mark your calendars for June 21st, July 5-6th, July 20th, and August 30th. Alongside these events, players can look forward to increased XP for the first catch of the day, new stickers, Research tasks, and various in-game bonuses.

However, the biggest buzz surrounds the introduction of a paid-for encounter for three of Pokemon Go's most elusive creatures: Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

Normally, these Galarian Birds are ultra-rare spawns from the Daily Adventure Incense, which can only be activated for a limited time each day. The fact that for $8 (about £6), players will get to choose one of the trio to encounter via a Timed Research ticket makes the community quite stirring.

Since July 2022, the Galarian versions of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have been available in Pokemon Go, but they are notoriously difficult to catch. Many players are still missing them from their collections. These encounters often end with the birds fleeing, making them prime candidates for the use of coveted Master Balls. Alternatively, players can now pay for a guaranteed encounter, ensuring they finally add these elusive Pokemon to their roster.

Adding another layer of challenge, Shiny versions of these Legendary birds are also available, with an estimated encounter rate of 1/20 – assuming you can find one in the first place. The Fleeting Legends Ticket will be available for purchase from June 23rd to 29th, coinciding with the Ancients Discovered event. The latter event brings the Regi Legendary family back to raids, including Special Backgrounds for the first time, and a temporary boost (and then removal) of the Remote Raid Cap.

With the 'Delightful Days' season and the Fleeting Legends Ticket, Pokemon Go continues to evolve, offering both exciting new content and potentially controversial monetization strategies. Will you be splurging on a chance to catch the Galarian Birds, or are you happy to keep hunting for them the old-fashioned way?
